Incompatibility problem or ireconcileable differences?

Post by tonyjer »

Hi Everyone

Many thanks for the previous advice about overcoming glitches in the creation of video files.

Can I trouble you with another frustration?

Torsten H advised me some time ago that DVD shrink could be used with ISO files as well as TS folders. The truth is I have always had problems with ISO folders and am now wondering whether this is yet another legacy of my dumb operating system. (ME)

Briefly:

I have always been able to create TS folders and then use DVD shrink to reduce and burn the DVD-this has always worked like a dream.

Just to be different I have tried recently to choose the “create ISO file” in the final burn sequence and although UVS8 confirms that the creation was successful there are always problems.

These are:

· DVD shrink never seems to recognise the ISO file as it does with the TS folder. (In fact when you browse folders using DVD shrink you can never find the ISO file even though it is there!)
· When you create the ISO file the burn screen confirms that the space needed is about 10Gb for about 5.1Gb of mpeg video file. Is this correct? (When you choose TS folders it always predicts the space as 5.1 Gb which is spot on)
· After the “successful” creation of the ISO the file is always seems to be 3.99 Gb along with a difc (recovered file fragments and other ISO related files which are much smaller in size)
· I have also tried to use the VS8 burning engine to burn the ISO onto a DVD but it always reports that the DVD iso file is not a Ulead ISO file when it patently is!

Can someone clue me up on this ISO scenario? I am happy with my current routine of creating TS folders and using shrink to size and burn the DVD but other folk swear by ISO folders. (Some are convinced that it helps with the endemic OOS problem)

Am I missing something or is this just ME causing difficulties again?

Many many thanks

1. What version of DVD Shrink do you use?

2. Are you using the "Open Disk Image" menu option in DVD Shrink?

3. How large is the ISO file created by UVS before DVD Shrink gets hold of it?

4. Have you tried using a custom disk size of 4000MB in DVD Shrink?
