Editing Original Audio Track

Editing Original Audio Track
Somehow, I find myself with a clip that has two red lines in the original audio track. The level in one of them is adjustable but the other isn't.
As a result I'm hearing some of the audio from the non-adjustable red line. I want to completely silence the audio on that clip so only audio from the music track can be heard.
Can some please tell me how I got the two red lines? Additionally, how can I get rid of them?

You don't say what version of VS you are using -- though you may have in another of your threads. But are you sure that both lines are red? In my X2, for instance, the adjustable line is red but the other is green... And that simply shows the median line of 0dB as far as I am aware. It gives you a norm from which to be able to judge whether your audio edits are higher or lower in volume.
The mute the audio, left click and hold the end of the adjustable line and drag it to the bottom of the screen. Then do the same with the right hand end.
Or more simply, just use the Mute button to the immediate right of the audio controls in the approximate centre of the VS screen... Or adjust the volume control down from the default 100 to 0...

Hi Ken,
VS is 11.5 Plus which is very similar to X2.
To clarify. In all but a small segment of the time line, one is red & the other is green. However, in the segment in question, there are two red lines. They only appear in a small gap in the video where some thing went astray during editing. This gap is between adjoining clips separated by a transition.
Does that give you what is needed to diagnose this condition?

Well, yes & no but that's what confuses me.But are you sure that both lines are red?

But does the sound remain in that spot when you mute the whole clip?
In any case, I suspect that (or those) particular line(s) is/are the cross-fade of the audio from the two adjoining clips. But again, you should be able to pull the little blocks that appear at the far ends of the line down to the bottom...

So are you saying the mute button doesn't work?

Ken:
Additionally, you're right that this is isolated to a spot where there is a "fade to black" transition between two adjoining clips. I've tried pulling down the red lines. The lower one moves OK but the upper one (supposed to be green) doesn't.
Revised since posted: After experimenting a bit, I found that this was apparently caused by an overlooked problem between adjoining clips. It was supposed to be "fade to black" followed by a color image to create a "black to off-white" transition - suggested by Trevor. The off-white part of it was missing - probably pilot error during editing. Once I replaced it, the audio problem went away.

Red line
If this has anything to do with the preview range-
RED LINE -REMOVE- which removes the preview range
The red line represents the Preview Range and shows as a line in the
Ruler Panel below the Preview Window.
This allows you to play only part of a project.
If a mark in/out point is selected in the Project mode you will only be able to see
the video inbetween those points.
To remove the red line, (which was inserted whilst in the Project mode by setting the in or out points)----move the black triangle(trim handle) below the
blue bar at the bottom of the Preview Window that is on the left to the start
of your project .
Then click on [ or F3.
Move the trim handle(black triangle) on the right all the way to the end of your Project and click] or F4.All this must be done in the PROJECT mode.
The above method is one way of trimming a clip in the CLIP mode.....

Hi Ken,
Thanks for replying.
Thanks for replying.
I'm familiar with the workings of the Preview Range ruler panel. My issue is not with that red line. It's in the original audio track which is a sub-part of the original video track. The red line represents the Preview Range and shows as a line in the Ruler Panel below the Preview Window.
