FYI: VideoStudio Pro X3 Update

Post by mrbobbell »

I installed VideoStudio Pro X3 today without incident on my Win 7 Pro 64 Bit PC. Afterward, I launched the program and, based on guidance from this forum, clicked on the Corel Guide icon in the upper right corner. Then, when the Corel Guide opened, I clicked on the "gears" icon in the upper right corner and clicked "Check for Updates".

After several seconds of checking, I received a dialogue box stating that an important update, designed to improve performance, was available. I clicked on "Click Here" to get the update.

The update installer insisted that I shutdown VideoStudio Pro X3 before installation could begin. Once I had taken that step, the patch installed quickly without incident.

Sorry that I can't offer any insight as to what has been improved or changed as a brand new user. (This update was not an update to the SmartSound Quicktracks module supplied by SmartSound.)

Cheers,
Bob

I did not get an important update :-(
Just checked this morning... no update available.
If really available, why Corel should not do like every one else on this earth and just releasing the update pacth on their website ?

Hi,

I had X3 Installed with all updates downloaded but have reformatted and re-installed Windows 7 x64

When I re-installed the try Before You Buy version and started the program I went to BUY and already purchased.

I entered my SERIAL NUMBER (no Activation Key)

The program registered and then did a small update of the internet?

Looks like they have sorted something out?

Now to install the downloaded extra files....

You sure your system is man enough to take the updates. I think you need more RAM

Not true. Quicken and Adobe, for example, as well as many others have automatic updates.

That Corel's is not working properly (at least for some people) is a different matter.

What about here?

http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

Isn't it the normal/right/easiest way ?

Not in my opinion. What could be easier than having a box pop up to say you have an update, then accept it? I don't have to go to a website, find the update page, download the file, then install it.......

Oh yeah, there's another little company that does auto updates. I think they are called Microsoft.

What's wrong with having choice? Like, fe. given by Microsoft?

Automatic updates ensure that everyone is running up to date software.

And if someone doesn't want to change known faults into unknown?
'Up to date' does not equal 'better'. Corel sw is an excellent example.

You do have a choice whether to install or not.

The problem is not whether an automatic update is ok or not... the problem is that if a company cannot guarantee a smooth engine to enable the update, it had better to stick on the "old" but working method to let the users get the update on the website. Or better: giving both the options to the users... exactly like... MISCROSOFT: if I want an update, I can get from their website.... I do not have to throw some dice and hope i get the lucky number, like in Corel's case...

Plus of course not everyone who purchases the software
1. Joins this Web Board
2. Ever visits the Corel Web site.
Therefore their software would never get updated.
