X3 Crashing at 0% when rendering AVCHD file
I have a project that I created in X2 last year with AVCHD files that is about two hours, with transitions and text. I am trying to re-render it using X3 and it crashes right at the beginning. I have tried Create Video File > Same as First Video Clip, with the Smartrender selection on and off but keep getting the same results. The application goes into non-responding mode right away and it gets stuck at Rendering 0%. I have let it run overnight but the program never comes out of non-responding mode. CPU utilization is almost at zero. The clips play fine individually and within the program. It just CANT render them.
These are my PC specs:
Win 7 64 bits
Intel i7-920
12Gb RAM
1Tb HDD
I have applied all X3 provided patches and I have updated Direct X per the sticky.
Here are the properties of the file:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-NTSC), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 16000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
I was really hoping to buy X3 to fix the blip issue caused in X2, but it looks like project created in the previous version is not ¡§compatible¡¨ with the new X3.

Did an install of the X3 trial version on another computer I have (HP laptop,Win 7 32 bit, CPU AMD X2 1.8Ghz, 2 GB RAM). I ran the same project file with the same AVCHD source files and it rendered all the way thru. The resulting file was a bit choppy probably due to the low processing power of the computer, but the process was able to complete.
Why is the file rendering in one computer but not the other? Is there a log file I can pull to determine where is the program getting stuck?

Sounds like you might have corrupt download on the first computer. Perhaps a re-install might help. VS x3 is backwards compatible with x2 so that should not be the problem. Are there any transitions in the x2 project that are not in the TBYB version of x3?

I already did an uninstall and reinstallation of the program on the first computer, but ended up with the same behavior.
I dont think the transition would be an issue because the file was able to render on the 2nd computer, but might be worth checking. How can I tell which X2 transitions are not X3 compatible?

The transitions all play within the X3 timeline playback with no problems, so I am assuming that is not the issue.
I already removed and reinstalled the program, repaired the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series, applied the Corel autoupdate to the program, but keep getting the same result.
I really want to make this work and buy the program, but i am running out of options here.
Any other suggestions?

You know what they say about "assume".The transitions all play within the X3 timeline playback with no problems, so I am assuming that is not the issue.
You may have to go thru a process of elimination. I would start with the transitions. Remove them all and see if you can render. If so, then add them back in until you find the problem. Also, any filters you might be using. If that doesn't work I would then look at audio. If all else fails then look at you video clips.

The same project, with the same files, transitions and audio was able to get rendered on a laptop running Win 7 32 bits.
If any of the components mentioned were the offenders, the same crashing was "supposed" to occur on the Win 7 32 bit installtion when it came time to render.
I am "suspecting" that it is not something wrong with the project, file, audio or transitions, but something related to the installation on a machine running Win 7 64 bits.
I am going to remove some of the other video programs I have installed and reinstall X3 to see what happens.

I have pretty much done the suggestions on trying to identify the problem but keep ending up with the same results.
This is what I have done so far:
- Removed all video editing programs from my computer
- Removed all transitions from the project
- Removed all text effects from the project
- Removed a non AVCHD clip from the timeline project
........and it keeps crashing at render time.
I did get a new message a couple of times pointing to a DMP file in the C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\vstudio_1.6.0.272_20100312_183450.DMP, but the size of the file is 0 bytes. I tried to open the file with Notepad, with no results.
I really dont know what else to do. Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Hyperthreading on the Core i7 platform?
Well¡K.I think I found the problem.
Somebody on another ¡§brand¡¨ board, complained about having crashing issues with Vegas when rendering on his core i7-920 set up and upon turning hyper-threading off on the BIOS, the rendering crashing issue went away. Since it sounded similar to the issue I was having, I decided to disable hypertheading on my set up. And it worked, the project is now able to render all the way thru without crashing!!!
The weird thing is that this issue didn¡¦t happen back in October, when I had X2 installed on the same computer (i7-920 Win 7 64bit) with hyperthreading enabled on the BIOS. It seems that something changed from X2 to X3 with the rendering process, that it is not working well with the hyperthreading implementation on the Core i7 platform. I also noted that the CPU utilization with hyperthreading on was at 12-13% (essentially one virtual core being used, or half of a physical one) but with hyperthreading disabled utilization was around 25%, with one core completely pegged at 100%
I did a search on this but haven¡¦t seen anyone indicating this to be an issue.
Is anyone having rendering issues with X3 on an i7 platform with hyperthreading enabled?

Interesting. Glad you seem to have it sorted out.

Hyperthreading
How does one find the hyperthreading setting, please? Al
