GIF/WaterMark Problem....

Post by mikeyek1106 »

Ive only just started using Corel and have stumbled across a small problem which im not entirely sure i can rectify.

Im trying to add a gif with a 'transparent' background as a type of watermark to some short WMV files, but when i add them to the video as an overlayed track, the appear to become like a negative rather that how they when viewed normally.

I can get it running fine using the image as a jpeg but it looks awful as it retains a white background.

Can what im looking for be done?

TIA. :D

Welcome to the forums,

GIF files can be somewhat problematic when used in VS. For instance if you try using an animated GIF, inserting it as an image, will only provide the first frame.

JPEG images are 24-bit images, and do not contain the extra 8-bits for the alpha (transparency) channel. Use the PNG, TIF, or TGA for your watermark, as they support transparency. The more common being PNG.

If you put a color background to the gif then saved it as a jpeg, you could import that to an overlay track and use Chroma key to make the background transparent. Choose a very bright pink or similar for the background making sure this color does not appear in the gif image otherwise you will make that part transparent too. When using the Chroma key choose "0" as the similarity value!
