V11 Capture help

Post by ibbotson »

I have not been on the forum for a while but now requre some assistance again regarding capturing via V11. I requre to capture some VHS tapes (pal) to edit to DVD. I am using a Belkin High Speed 2.0 capture device which is working OK but only in Black & White and without sound. The capture device originly came with version V6 but I have had a problem running it so tried to uninstall then re-install via disc but it would not re-install.

I now from my previous forum request regarding this subject that there are problems with capture devices that do not come with the bundled software so is this the same problem.

This is not an area I'm very good at so any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

David

You are correct. Usually, the software that comes with a hardward capture device is "tweaked" to specifically work with that device. Do you still have VS v6? If so, continue to capture with that, then import the clips into v11 for editing.

Did you connect the device to the VCR's composite output or to S-Video? If the latter, that usually does not work or produces the kind of result you are getting.

Does the Belkin device have a separate cable for audio? If so, which port did you use to connect it to on your computer?

Double check your User manual to make sure you have installed the Belkin correctly and have the cables all set up correctly.

VS11 Capture Help

Post by ibbotson »

Hello Ken & sjj1805

The belkin has not been un-installed since the last time I used it, and is set as per previous use and as per manual. So I do not think the device is the problem.

Previously I have always had to captured with VS6 which came bundled with the device and then transfered to VS11+ for editing, which I would do now, but for some reason VS6 has stopped working. I have un-installed VS6 via the "Control Panel-add or Remove Program" but it seems it has not un-installed correctly and therefor will not let me re-install properly again. If I could get VS6 working again I'm sure I would be OK so if you have any advise on that it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Well, first we don't know what operating system you are using. Has that changed since the last time you used the Belkin? VS6, for instance, won't work under either Vista or Win 7...

Second, as far as getting rid of the final traces of VS 6, it depends on how confident you feel about doing a complete Registry search and destroy mission using regedit.exe...

VS11 Capture help

Post by ibbotson »

Hi Ken

Still using the same operating system XP so nothing should have changed there.

Not sure if I'm confident enough to change anything in Registry on my own, but I would be able to ask one of our works IT staff to assist me.

VS11 Capture help

Post by ibbotson »

Hi Ken

Have taken your advise and unistalled VS6 via registry, all worked OK. Re-installed VS6 & 11+ and can now capture with the belkin device in full colour on both 6 & 11+. Only issue I have is no sound. Any help on that would be appreciated.

One thing you will need to check from the Belkin manual is how it normally transmits audio. I have a USB capture device, but it had a separate cable (standard stereo plugs at either end) which went from a separate jack in the device into the Line-In socket on the computer. Yours might do the same...

Do you know which sound format is set in the Belkin control panel?
