VS11 - smart package nested project files not working

Post by Davidk »

Using VS11, for the first time I'm trying to smart package a project which has nested project files. The whole nested vsp opens OK - the main project has only one small vsp nested internally in it. I select smart package and after the save current project vsp dialog box, I get an error message that says the timeline has one or more project files - smart package can't continue.

Is this a bug or an undocumented feature?

Further to this, as a test I've just tried packaging a project file without any nested items. As before, the project file opens in the timeline OK, plays OK, and it has a 3 second exposure of a jpg image and an overlying frame plus title as the opening item. When trying to package this, the error is that the (opening) jpg image cannot be created, and package process fails.

I've used smart package before without problems, so this sort of thing is unexpected and frustrating.

I recently loaded the trial version of Pro X3 for review and uninstalled it when the review period was over. It was installed in it's own separate directory tree, now removed, so it should not have interfered with VS11, but it might have. Is there any history of that???

David,

Ref your first post, the error is correct. You can not Smart Package a project that has a nested project file. You would need to first render the nested project to a video file then insert that into your main project.

I have no problems with the second post. I duplicated your file structure, then saved the project and Smart packaged it. It completed and I was able to open the project from the Smart Package. This test was also done on my XP machine.
