Has anyone done this before?
I am attempting to record a dance recital with a Canon 5d Mark2 (1920x1080 30fps .MOV files) and a Canon HF10 (1920x1080 recording in "30P" mode.
My question is has anyone made a DVD doing something like this? Can you put 2 different "HD" recordings together and have it come out looking ok?
I will need to burn standard definition DVD's as well as BluRay DVD's
I am using VSX2 btw.
thanks!
Rob

Re: Has anyone done this before?
Robert I recorded a Karaoke contest at the fair like this once but not in HD. It was with my old panasonic mini dv camcorders. One camera was capable of taking somewhat better video than the other. I put it on a tripod and let it run and roamed with the other one. Most important is not to stop the recording of either one of them at any time to keep them in sync. Even if the one you are hand holding is pointing at the ground or whatever just keep it rolling. This way you will only have to synchronize the two clips one time. I used both audio tracks, which the continuous running of the cameras was totally dependent on.robert1 wrote:I am attempting to record a dance recital with a Canon 5d Mark2 (1920x1080 30fps .MOV files) and a Canon HF10 (1920x1080 recording in "30P" mode.

I didn't have any help and did the whole thing myself. It came out ok for an amateur using amateur equipment and techniques.

I have made many music videos with 2 cameras + 1 digital recorder for the audio and then synchronized together, which means I have to sync 3 sources (2 video + 1 audio) together
One simple trick to sync the audio is to create a "sync point": just make a very short noise (like a short sequence of separated hand claps or finger snaps) at the very beginning of the recording and then syncronize the two videos (by moving them in the timeline with the highest possible timeline resolutoin) till the audios of the claps/snaps sounds exactly together.
Of course, if then the two videos somehow "derives" and lose the sync, you shall eventually split one of them and slightly adjust back-forward.
Hope this help.

PS: you can find them on YouTube looking for "Roberto Colombo"

There is at least 1 thread for multi-camera editing in the Video Product Tutorials section of this forum.

That's pretty cool Roberto. It took me a minute to realize what you had done there. May I inquire what you use to record audio other than your cameras?Roberto wrote:Here is a nice job I have done last saturday with 4 cameras + 1 audio... everything then synchronized with VS X3

Thanks
I use a Zoom H4 digital recorder, in this case directly fed from the guitar pick-up.
It works pretty fine and recently I also started to use the same way (i.e. separate camera + audio => sync them together) when I play live, to avoid the noise of people chatting in the pubs (not everybody is interested in what I am playing
The camera is actually a "old" Canon Powershot S2IS... for these videos I still use it and not the Panasonic in HD to keep the same format as other former videos I made.
If you wish to see more videos, you can find them on my webiste: www.roberto-colombo.com in the Music & VideoBlogs sections
