Hi All,
Just a quick one. I abandoned Pinnacle Studio 12 as it has an in built bit rate maximum limit that causes horrid pixelation in paning shots using avchd. Before I launch in to the Corel world does vsp X3 suffer the same fate?
By the way Pinnacle is a crash happy annoying thing.
does vsp X3 have any bit rate limit

X3 default settings for AVCHD output (Share > Create Video File > AVCHD) are limited to a max. VBR of 18 Mbps for 1920 x 1080 and 15 Mbps for 1440 x 1080. However, I stress that those are the default output settings.
You can use different maximums by a number of methods. First you can choose Share > Create Video File > Same As First Video Clip. That will use exactly the same properties of your first clip as long as that clip is AVCHD and has the bitrate you want to use. In fact, to prove my point I just rendered some AVCHD which uses the new international standard AVCHD maximum of 24 Mbps using the above method, and as expected, it output a new file with identical properties, which plays as smoothly as the original.
And if you intend to make a lot of videos using those properties, then you can use Make Movie Template Manager to make a permanent template which will appear in the drop down menu of Share > Create Video File. Use the Add route when you choose Settings > Make Movie Template Manager. It is a little obscure, since the top window only has a mysterious '...' beside it. But that means you have to navigate to where you have a clips with the properties you want to use for the template. Select that clip, then in the second window, give the new template a name and then OK out of it. Next time you open Share > Create Video File, the new template should appear down at the bottom. Make sure you never try to change the properties of that template though, as it will fall apart and revert to SD DVD properties.

If you are interested in what Pinnacle can do to avchd have a look at these

The jumpy camera is me not turning of the image stabiliser. The flicker is leaves and insects.
