I recently purchased PSP X3 and installed on my Vista based computer. Until yesterday I had not tried to import from scanner (HP Scan Jet 5590 Pro). When I tried to I noticed that the menu options for import were not highlighted. Uninstalled and reinstalled PSP X3 three times. I had not yet uninstalled PSP X2 Ultimate yet (Thank God)!
No doccumentation within the PSP X3 program or on the installation disc. Several attempts to connect with Corel support fruitless. I was on hold wiht the paid version of tech suppport and after 1 1/2 hours waiting I gave up.
I have been using PSP since Ver 6 (September 1999) and have been very happy. I d/l the list of my registered Corel products. It was 2 1/2 pages long.
I found a solution by accident. I opened a JPEG file in X3 and noticed that all the options "File - Help" were now highlighted and in the File drop down menu the "Import" function was highlighted. I was able to then import for scanner. Must open an existing picture file every time I start the program to have access to the scanner functions.
I lost over 5 hours of productivity time. I over 50 old negatives to scan for a customer and was at it until 10:30 PM last.

Sounds like your scanner may be in sleep mode. If you do a preview first, close the dialog box, close all images in X3 are you still locked out? I also have all sorts of issues with too many USB things plugged into my computer. The scanner will scan but not save anything when the external DVD burner is connected (you want to talk about wasting time, try batch scanning for a few hours only to realize NONE of it saved anything), I can't scan anything when my external hard drive is plugged in, and I can't burn anything on the DVD burner when the external HD and DVD burner are both plugged in. Bottom line is I unplug any nonessential USB devices when not in use.
I have Vista, an HP Scanjet G4050, X3 and PSP X. I wasn't able to get to scanning a negative from PSP X before so I just tried it now. Can't scan negatives from X3 either, only pictures no transparencies.
It's my opinion that it's an HP thing. I use Vuescan for all my scanning as I already had a pro license and it really does a good job. But Vuescan had issues with the scanner when I first bought it and needed to be updated by the author with some diagnostic help on my end. HP is not forthright with their systems and try to keep you using their product so they can keep tabs on you and drive you nuts or something. Vuescan's author had to sign a non-disclosure agreement to gain access to HP's programing to decode what was going on with the data from the scanner.

Good point, I did have to update my drivers to get the scanner to work properly (dust removal). It required online chat with tech support to get it done too.sjj1805 wrote:Have you updated your Scan Jet Drivers ?
