A couple X3 bugs...

Post by GldRush98 »

Hey guys, I have found a couple bugs in X3. The first one will cause a crash in ToolText.dll every time.
Just wanted to share in case you run in to it.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Set your background stroke color to disabled
2) Create a new image, open any existing image (doesn't matter)
3) Select the Text Tool

Image

It crashes every single time.
I have found it does not crash as long as you have the background stroke color set to not disabled, or if you have an image open that you have already used the Text Tool on. Even if you set yout background stroke to disabled, it will be fine if you have already used the Text Tool in that session.

I have also noticed that X3 has a problem with gif optimization. If you're trying to optimize an image that already has a reduced color pallette, the file's pallette it saves gets completely screwed up. This never happened in X2.

Image

You have to first increase the color pallette on the image, and THEN you can run the gif optimizer with out corruption.

So far I have been less then impressed with X3. It seems to offer nothing substantial over X2 (aside from Express Lab and Project Creator, which I will never ever use), and the install size ballooned from 380mb to 1.37gb. Am I missing some substantial feature upgrade besides the silly Express Lab and Project Creator?
I'm glad there is a try before you buy, as this is looking like a skip-me version.

Nice. Thanks for the heads up there.

The only time the texttool crashes for me is when I use it as the first tool on a newly created image. Opening an image or using a different tool first prevents this problem. Though unlike your bug mine isn't consistent.

OMG thank you so much for finding this issue with the text tool. It's had me reloading x3 because it failed so often. I just tested it and you are correct!!!!!!!!!!! This issue needs to be lifted to Corel, do you know if they are aware of it?

While I'm here, does anyone know what happened to the text box that we had in all previous releases? Working without it sux, no remembering of previous text, etc. I HATE that...

The dialog box was removed, of course most people hated that dialog anyway. They all wanted on image editing of text. Which is what Corel gave us.

However Remember Text is still available.

Image

It's the button with the text lines on it next to the "Create As" drop down box. After you start entering text just hit that button. Does exactly the same thing as the check-box in the dialog. After you hit it once, it's always on until you turn it off.

Thanks Levi, that is what I wanted, didn't necessarily need the box. That's great, now when I enter text, and am done, what do I do? I'm double-clicking all over the place to get it to take my text. Lol... I'm too tired right now so not explaining myself very well....

Edit - Never mind, I found the "accept changes" check mark...

I put the box on the image before improving my explanation. So that's why it's there. I always draw boxes when showing locations because I always explain the location wrong...pathetic as that sounds.

Glad to hear it's working for you then. :D

I'm going to test the text tool problem

Post by Simone Corel UK »

Hi to all

After reading this entry and testing it, I can confirm that there is a problem with the text tool. I will test it on different machines and report this problem.
Please note that the text tool has changed completely in X3 and it might be unstable in its first version.

In order to leave the loop -PSP crashes after clicking on the text tool-, please reset the work space while launching PSP X3 and keeping the Shift key down. You will be asked to reset the default work space and after confirming, PSP X3 works again.

I for one am kind of lost without that dialog box. I rarely use text and it's less confusing to have a separate window to compose with. If anyone knows how to get that text window back please let me know.

LOL, you know the fact that PSP doesn't overwrite your current install when you upgrade makes that a non-issue to do, good move by Corel if you ask me. That's actually what I already do.

Thanks

The text box is still available in X3. Hold down the Shift key as you click on the image and the old text box will reappear. Works both when clicking on the image to initially place the text and when clicking on existing text to edit it.

(Credit for finding this goes to "Chatty" in the Paint Shop Pro User's Group forums - http://www.pspug.org/cgi-bin/forum/Blah ... 269704761/).
