Videostudio x3 Insufficient Memory when Rendering HD
Any suggestions - my new laptop with Intel i7 and 4gb Ram gets Insufficient memory message when trying to render a project of about 2 mins in WMV HD 1080 25p
Thanks
Thanks
Hi,
Have you looked at the taskmanager? How much of the 4 GB is used? What does it show while you render?
My notebook has 2 GB RAM and when it is "Idle" 1 GB is used by background tasks. When I render HDV mpegs even with the old VS 11.5 Plus the usage goes near the 2 GB.
What are the settings of the "virtual memory" (I hope that is the correct expression for it in english)? I still use the old rule to have 1.5 times the RAM. That are 3 GB in my case.
As the usage goes only near 2 GB when rendering, I once reduced the "virtual memory" to 1 GB to have more free space on the HDD for videos. After I did that, VS 11.5 Plus crashed when rendering with an error message that seems to be the same as you got. I increased the virtual memory again to 3 GB and everthing is fine.
So, you could try to increase it on your machine as well, although 4 GB RAM sound enough....
Kind Regards

I don't know what the solution is, but Video Studio is most-likely having trouble with your original/input file. There could be some slight corruption in your file, or it might be a format variation that Video Studio doesn't "like". Is your original file WMV?
You may need to use a 3rd-party tool to convert to a different format before editing.
It's most-likely a bug/weakness in Video Studio. It's not because you don't have enough RAM... Windows uses the hard drive as virtual memory. So, although you can fill-up physical RAM, you should never get an "insufficient memory" error under normal conditions.

Hi,
I know that Windows uses the Hard drive as virtual memory. But there are 2 settings.
1. You can Windows let decide itself, how large the virtual memory file should be right now.
2. You can manually set the file to be always the same size.
I always choose the second option. I do not like having a fragmented virtual memory file, but rather one large non-fragmented file.
My virtual memory file is always 3 GB. When I reduced it to be only 1 GB then I had only 3 GB in total ( 2 GB physical RAM and 1 GB virtual file). Under that circumstances the PC crashed when the memory usage was high during rendering. This does not happen with 5 GB in total ( 2 GB physical RAM and 3 GB virtual file).
When you choose the first option to let Windows decide how much virtual memory is needed then I agree with your point of view.

filmed on highest HD Settings. What 3rd party converter would you suggest?

Maybe a small upgrade to my specs would fix it ?allanforbes wrote:Any suggestions - my new laptop with Intel i7 and 4gb Ram gets Insufficient memory message when trying to render a project of about 2 mins in WMV HD 1080 25p

You could try and use a flash/thumb drive to improve performance and maybe you might not get the insufficient memory error. The new version of ready boost in Windows 7 improves performance an could also free up some some memory that is used for caching the hard drive. As stated most of the time insufficient memory errors could be due to software problem.

Tried your suggestion and used my flash drive - I rendered the two minute video as a 1080 25p WMV file - Not quite sure why it would not render onto my 500GB drive (7200) but no problem on a 4Gb flash drive. Many thanks.tyamada wrote:You could try and use a flash/thumb drive to improve performance and maybe you might not get the insufficient memory error. My suggestion was to use the Ready Boost option built into Window 7. When you plug in the Thumb Drive you should get a prompt to speed up my computer, take that option. Then the Thumb drive will become a Cache for your disk drive. It may help and let you render the file to your hard disk.
To use Ready Boost click on the link I posted, it has instructions and information on how to use it.
At least you could render to the flash drive, I don't know why you get the insufficient memory problem.
Another thought is if you have an external hard drive, hook it up and see if you can render to it.

Re: Videostudio x3 Insufficient Memory when Rendering HD
Why do I get an error of insufficient memory when publishing my 10 min HD @ 1080 home video????
I have Window 7 @ 64 bit, 10 GIG RAM, DUAL QUAD XEON @ 3gighz! That's 8 Xeon processors! My virtual memory has been set at 10 gig min 30 gig max!
What more do I need to publish a 10 min video???
Anybody have this problem? I can only publish my HD @ the lower quality HD.

You say that Virtual memory has been set to 10GB
How much Physical memory do you have installed?

How much space do you have left on your physical Hard drive?allanforbes wrote:Any suggestions - my new laptop with Intel i7 and 4gb Ram gets Insufficient memory message when trying to render a project of about 2 mins in WMV HD 1080 25p

Maybe if you filled in the detials in the USER CONTROL PANEL it would help?
Using a thumb drive as swap/external memory would not do anything for speed.
