VS 11.5 Plus Contents Bonus CD Pack

Post by rckowal »

I use the boxed version which came with the Contents Bonus CD. It installed itself in a SmartSound Software library folder. I would like to use these contents but they don't show up in the GUI libraries where others do - like music, image, filters, etc.

I've tried but can't figure out how to get them imported into the appropriate folders so they will appear in the GUI libraries. I would appreciate some help with this issue.

I'm still a newbie at this. Please don't assume that I will know what to do with minimal directions.
Best regards, Richard

You have to copy and paste them manually, just like any other file on a CD or DVD. And it does not really matter if you paste them into the relevant library. They can go in any folder you care to create, as long as you give it a name you can easily recall. Then when you open VS 11.5+, you can simply navigate to the relevant folder to access the bonus content files...

Hi Ken,

I figured they would have to be manually moved into the appropriate library but couldn't find how to do it.

Anyhow, the job is done now. Once I grasped the procedure, it was easier than I thought.

Now I would like to find some more menu templates. I'm not too thrilled with the 11.5 stock set.

The SmartScene menus in particular are pretty well infinitely variable in the photos and/or motion video backgrounds, music etc.

The menu templates supplied are pretty much just a starting point for you to build up your own personal library. each template supplied is so customisable in that you can change almost every element of each template that you can end up with literally thousands of different ones in no time at all.

Thanks Brian & Ken.

The potential of re-designing/editing SmartScene menus is very interesting. Is this done within VideoStudio or is more/other software required?

Additionally, is there some place where one can learn (in detail) how to do so?

No. Simply go to the Edit tab. There you can change the background, music, fonts, buttons, etc.

Jeff,

While waiting for replies, I discovered the edit tab. I'm sure I can figure out how to use it but I still wish there was more information, like a tutorial or guide, to using it.

If you go the the DVD Authoring section of the following tutorial it does touch a bit on editing the menu.

There may be some others in the Tutorial section.

Thanks Jeff. With a lot of digging through various sources, I'm finding bits & pieces of information about Smartscene menus.

In the Samples folder of 11.5 Plus there are some png & BMP files. They appear to be image files of some sort but where should they go in the libraries? Or said another way, what are they used for?

They are just like any other image file (or sound file, video clip, etc) that you have on your hard drive. Certainly you can "put" them in the library, but the library is only virtual. All clips still reside wherever they were installed. In the case of VS clips, they are in the Samples folder.

The idea is that you treat the provided menus as samples or starting points.
You can alter just about anything on a provided menu
background image / video
background sound
layout
Font
etc.

All you need are some template menus that have a different number of thumbnails e.g. a menu with
1 thumbnail
2 thumbnails
3
4
and so on.

You can also create your own from scratch with PhotoImpact

As for smartscene menus, these are a kind of hybrid menu which has one thumbnail and several text entries. Please view:
Why do Smartscene menus take so long to create?

Thanks Steve,

I read the link you suggested. It has helped me to further understand how to edit/create VS menus. Now I feel ready to put all of this knowledge to work with "hands on" experience.
