How do I print white font on color paper?

Post by pmedia »

Can anyone tell how do I print white font on color paper?

I have blue paper and the text is white.
How do I get the white text to print on the blue paper?
I am using Photo Impact 12 along with a canon Pixma MP 210 printer.
I tried open a transparent image and put the white text on it and then try to print, but nothing prints on the blue paper. If I put another color such as black text on the transparent background it prints ok on the blue paper, but not white text.

Most consumer level printers do not have the ability to print in white ink.
Maybe think of it this way... If you print something in a bright red you use only red ink. If you print something in a pink color it uses less red ink allowing more of the white paper to be seen through the red ink. White is considered the absence of color (ink).
Typically the ink colors that a printer has are black, cyan (blue), magenta (red) & yellow. No combination of these colors will result in white, except the absence of these colors (no ink).
The only way I've been able to "print" white text on blue "paper" is to start with white paper & print onto it an image of a blue background with white text on it. The printer will print blue everywhere except where the white text is.
Hope this helps.

Don't be disappointed, it's just a fact of digital imaging. White means there is no color at all. If you have seen or have any photos that have had too much light, where things appear washed-out, that means that there is no color in that area. The camera could not pick up on the colors, so left it blank. That's also why those are near impossible to correct, where real dark, almost black areas can be corrected.

It prints blue everywhere except where the clouds are. Now if you're clouds are stormy looking, having gray in them, then it will use a little black for the gray color.

I don't think so, unless your printer has white ink. The closest you can come is gray. A professional print shop uses different inks, like oils, that does include white. That's how they can do it. You just need to have white ink, and as far as I know, most consumer printers do not have white ink cartridges.

Just do as Rick suggested, use a blue background with your white text above it. Then when it prints, it will paint the white paper blue, everywhere except where your text is. The result will be white text on blue..

Hello all. Not sure if this is the same, however, I printed an CD jacket with white fonts on green background. I used PI DVD template, typed in the words in white, sent it to the printer, and voila! perfect. Well, food for thought. Warren.
