Hi Darryl
Apparantly it is not unusual to find that the two clips are a slightly different shade. Using the brighness filter should overcome this problem.

Wow!! Brightness filter, that's the ticket. There was such a huge difference I would have thought nothing could overcome it. The split is seamless. Thanks a lot.

This has been such an enjoyable thread I want to say thanks. What you are doing is very neat, and learning how to do it correctly by your experience and all the neat tricks in VS that have been suggested has been great... Al

Darryl wrote:I did not solve the original black line problem. I had been working at trial and error to achieve what allanforbes is trying to do and the blplhp tutorial clarified the process for me. The only difference is I do not think "Fill Color" in the cropping filter should be ticked. If you are referring to how I solved my background color problem, haven't solved that one either, could be just be an uneven lighting problem or (most likely) could be that I forgot and left one of the fill color boxes ticked, in the cropping filter. My original test taping has been moved and edited and re edited so much I do not know what is what so I am going to start all over from scratch. Although I do not know allanforbes exact method I am hoping that by following the blplhp tutorial and unticking fill color box, in both frames, and then aligning left and right frames in the preview window will solve both our problems. I'll let you know.
If you dont use fill colour - what colour do you use to apply chromakey? - I used bright pink as nothing in shot is pink!

Hi Allan
I have just created a project with two clips in HD. I set the crop to 52% wide and 100% high. Like you i used bright pink and set the Similarity to "0"
Without I physically move them apart I cannot replicate the black line.

Have just created another project same as first but 50% width. On You Tube this one shows the black line! If you want to see them both they are here:
This one is 52% width title "split screen":

And this one is 50% width title "split screen 2":

We will succeed with this, I'm sure

I do not use chroma key, I can't seem to get it all keyed out, properly. I think I must be missing something in the process.
try setting the similarity to "0"

Darryl wrote:Hi Allan, I do not use chroma key, I can't seem to get it all keyed out, properly. I think I must be missing something in the process. What I do is..... I take the clip I want for the left side and put it in an overlay track and set it to fill screen. Apply the cropping filter. Adjust the portion you want cropped. Untick "fill color" and tick "stationary". Click first key frame and copy. Click last key frame and paste then "ok". You will see a distorted view in the preview screen, do not worry. Next drag the clip you want for the right side to the main video track. There is no need to crop this clip, but you may, if you find a need to. Next click on "clip", under the preview window. Drag the line, for the overlay track, to the left until it lines up the way you want it to look. That should be about it.
Hi Darryl, Your last post has solved my black line problem - the method that you described works much better than the tutorial which I had been following that suggested using fill colour and chromakay. Many thanks.
