Split screen effect - get rid of the black line (join)
Hi
I am using Videostudio x3 and trying to get a good effect with split screen.
1. I have used the cropping filter - changed it to 100% height and 50% width and then positioned it over one half of the screen.
2. Then filled with bright pink and applied chromakey.
The effect works but I keep getting a thin black line on the join - which I cannot get rid of.
Any advice please?

Are you just using the overlay tracks for the split-screen, or is one of the clips on the Main video track? I've tried both ways, and don't get the thin black line.
When you crop your clip, do you move the selected crop area to one side? This may be where your black line is coming from. You need to ensure that the selected areas overlap slightly.

I only crop one clip on the uppermost overlay and manually drag it to one side. The other clip is not cropped. I think it must be an alignment issue as I can alter the black line by slightly moving the clips - would have been much easier if it allowed you to move clip when viewing in full screen mode.

Hi Allan
I think I might be getting an answer. Is it possible that when you moved the cropping rectangle you accidently just nicked the edge of the black border? To check this out try this. Go to Settings then click Preferences, click on the small black square at the bottom of the window against
Background color and click the yellow box. Click OK. This will change the color of the background to your preview screen. Now does that change the black line to yellow? If it does then you do have a gap between the two clips and you should be able to move one of them to the left or right to cover the gap. If the line is still black that means that it (the black line) is part of the clip, In other words when you moved the cropping rectangle a part of the background was included.
If none of the above works would you be prepared to send me the VSP file as an attachment to an enmail. Don't worry thet I won't be able to view the actual clips, I will rename a couple of mine to suit.
EDIT
Just read your post above. You need to crop both clips otherwise if you only crop one you will only be able to use the right or left half of the clip. What do you do if you want to use the middle section?

You can always just select the clip and use the up and down arrows on your keyboard.allanforbes wrote:I only crop one clip on the uppermost overlay and manually drag it to one side. Thanks John -
I tried making both clips overlays and applied the croping and chromakeys
Also changed background colour to yellow - line now appears as yellow but when repositioning clips yellow goes and black line still there.
I have tried extensively to move the clips etc
I now think that it may be due to the fact that I am using AVCHD files and VS x3 automatically makes these into smaller proxy files - I have upload a clip to youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxfYTxI5ezs
The thin black line in the fist half of the clip is visable in the VSP clip but the much thicker black line in the second half of the clip (after the cut ) only appears when saved as a HD file - the VSP file does not show this thicker black line.
Any ideas?

How exactly did you solve it then?Darryl wrote:Thanks, you inspired me to do a another search of the tutorials. I do not know how I missed it so many times before but there it was in black and white. Thanks. And Thanks to member blplhp for posting it.
