Where to $buy$ content for ProX2?

Post by semper_fitz »

My first post guys, take it easy on me. I bought ProX2 last year, when I took over the job of video producer/videographer for my church's weekly television program. I've learned everything by trial and error. What a great program. I feel I've mastered most of this solid, affordable application with about 10-15 hours a week of use.
I've come to a point where I'm considering getting ProX3 and I saw that it comes with $500 dollars worth of content from Revostock.com. Thats great. I was looking on revo stock to buy content for ProX2, but alas, it seems everything there (effects and title-stuff: Yes, I still lack the "pro video language") is only for use with "Adobe After Effects Version CS3." I've looked everywhere but cannot find any site which sells content for ProX2. Maybe adding features like those superb title effects on revostock cannot be done with ProX2? I know that the aformentioned Adobe program is about $1000, far less than the bargain-for-the-buck that I got with ProX2. I just wanted to know if there was ANYTHING out there for purchase and use with ProX2.
Saying all of that, was the content included with ProX3 a one time thing, specificly done for ProX3 with no future ability to add more effects/titles/ and what-not?

By no means is this post meant to be a complaint about ProX2. This program has surpassed all of my expectations, by far. I cannot thank Corel enough for what this affordable application has done for my church's Cable Television outreach. I've bought a new PC (HP Voodoo DNA Firebird) upgraded RAM, and Hard drives and liquid cooling... all to enhance the abilities of video editing; OK, it helped my gaming, too! But, don't tell my wife that!
I'm just looking to get my hands on any content out there, man. I'm willing to pay. Any links or advise would be greatly appreciated. One more time, thank you Corel, for making video production possible for small/ low funded church's like mine.

Welcome to the forums,

If the Revostock (which is templates) included with VS X3 is valued at $500, then Revostock is very, very, very expensive. I have not found templates that I would pay that much for.

Are you looking for DVD menu templates, movie wizard style templates, video filters/effects?

For DVD Menus, for years the former Ulead used PhotoImpact's proprietary UFO format files for the menus in VS. With PI, you could create your own menus from scratch.

Movie Wizard templates, however are not the same as your DVD menu templates. If you take apart a Movie wizard project, you'll see how to go about creating your own. They are nothing more than small clips, images, masks, titles, flash animations, put together with your video or image clips.

You might want to take a look at Digital Juice for some excellent FX that can be used with VS.

For 3D titling there's Xara 3D or Bluff Titler.

Digital Juice is not just effects. Actually it is much more. In fact, they have many products aimed specifically for church use: motion backgrounds, graphics, music, etc. Within the past year DJ has also released 3D font sets.

I assume you have the content pack that came with x2? Lots of menus for DVD's which probably isn't what you're after.

Why not just buy x3? It's only 69 bucks upgrade version. Seems like the logical solution if you like x2.

Great posts, guys! I feel like many, many hours are about to be devoted to new app's.
I was looking at the Digital Juice, looks great! It appears that the app is free, I guess I have to pay for content then? Or is the "free download" a trial period thing?

Yes, the app is called the "Juicer", and it is free. The Juicer takes the raw Juice files and renders them to a file you can use with your editing app.

As you see, the content can be a little pricey, but if you sign up for their e-newsletter you will get notified of deals and sales on a regular basis.

i got the "juicer" tonight. I've been on their forums and in their products "shop" pages. This is amazing! Somewhat expensive, but I can see allot of affordable-endless usage options for me. Thanx for recommending!
I do have a few questions, though. Lets say I purchase one of the "Editors Toolkit Pro Singles," Am I going to be able to use all of the content with Video Studio? Such as: backgrounds, lowerthird mattes(don't know what this is), Lower thirds(?), minthirds(?), Overlay mattes(?), overlays, swipes (I really want to use these...), transwipes?

I'm not looking for a tutorial in here, I am willing and capable of crawling through these things one-by-one, week-by-week, after I get some content to work with. I just want to be assured that it is do-able using proX2 and the Juicer only, before making any purchases. I've looked in the VS sub forum in the DJ forum, but nobody is posting there anymore. I hope thats not a bad sign.

Grateful if you could reduce the size of your avatar to one similar in size to others on this forum e.g. mine or Black Lab's.

As for Lower Thirds, they are simply masks which in broad terms cover the ... gasp ... lower third (or quarter or eighth) or so of a screen. If you think about your nightly TV news, they will often have the anchor sitting in mid screen behind a desk or something or other. And the lower part of the screen will from time to time have a banner text headline saying what that item of news is about.... or a ticker tape ranning across screen with other items of less important news ... or an advert saying 'Next: Homer Simpson takes on X2!'... or the like. No magic -- just another thing to make your videos look more interesting and relevant.

Just imagine what it would be like when you get into the moving Picture-in-picture effect possible with the New Blue PiP filter in X3... and combine that with a variety of lower thirds!!!

Edited my profile, was unaware of how rediculously large my avatar was! Sorry about that.
Yeah, I just spent alot of money on two nice computer room office desks and a 8gb ram upgrade. The wife would kill me if I bought proX3 and things from Digital Juicer at the same time. Once my old kingston RAM sells on Ebay I'm probably going to get the proX3 with my money, then take up a collection for some Juicer content. I only us the video editing for church purposes. And I've had a few people offer to donate many times. But, I went ahead and spent alot of my own money anyway, up till now. Might be time to take them up on the offer, it would be great to get ahold of some juicy content... I can't wait to see it playing on Charter Cable! The other church's on cable are going to start asking about it, I gaurantee.

Thanks about the avatar. Now at least we can't see whether the motherboard on it is on the 'fritz' or on the 'fitz'!!

And yes, let's hope you can get $69 for the RAM which is the cost of the upgrade to X3!!

Yes, all DJ files can be used in VS.

A general tip. When rendering a DJ file to be used in VS, render it as uncompressed AVI, as VS handles these easily. Typically, uncompressed AVI produces huge files (65GB/hr) but since you are producing files that are 15 or 30 seconds long this shouldn't be an issue.
