Video Studio X3 - Crashes Often
Ok- been a VS fan from the day starting with Ulead's VS 7 or 8 a couple of years ago. Early this year, I decided to upgrade to the X2 and then X3 versions (bought both about 2 months apart). These two items were the first video editing software I purchased from the new Corel company.
The editing features and technology for Corel but my program for X3 crashes all the time. I cannot limit to any certain activity but weather it's editing, creating a mpeg4 mix, editing Audio, running a preview, adding clips, the PROGRAM crashes all the time and unpredictably.
I can still edit, paste, add files but the inconsistency of the program has my greatly frustrated. I have a full download of X3. What should I do? Go back to X2 or X3?
Operating System : Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit
Motherboard : Extreme Performance (RAID 0) - 1TB (500GB x 2) 5,400RPM (8MB Cache)
Processor : IntelR Core™2 Extreme X9100 3.06GHz
Memory/RAM : 4GB« Dual Channel DDR3 SO-DIMM at 1066MHz
Video Card : 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3870
Sound Card : Realtek High Defination Audio
Hard Drive : 1 TB

Video Studio X3 - Crashes Often
I am using X3 Videostudio provided through the Electronic Download (non-trial version in other words VxX3 Pro version)
Properties of your source files, including video, audio, image files (format, file size, where did you get it?): Home Videos and some mp4 files taken with CamStudio.
Project Properties (important): MPEG
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): MP4 usually. Haven't even gotten this far most of the time as the software crashes even before I try "Sharing" or creating a file.
Output Properties (cogwheel in lower left of burn screen): Haven't gotten this far.
PAL or NTSC: NTSC
Error Codes (if any): Only error I will get is with downloading the PureHD format. Sometimes when I try to download a PureHD I cannot find its file on my Corel. The windows error code is 1706.
All in All, the software can be powerful but it just CRASHES SO OFTEN. I literally cannot reliably work on a project for more than 2-3 minutes before crashing. please help

I realise PureHD is a Ulead product (now owned by Corel), but in fact this is the first time in my 8 years on this Board that I have seen it referred to.
What type of PureHD were you trying to download: 1920/1440 x 1080i or 1280 x 720p? If that latter, then successive versions of VS have had difficulty with that format -- although some users are reporting that a new codec AVCHD Lite, which uses the same 1280 x 720p, but in AVCHD mpeg-4, is OK with X3. But your version would be HDV and as far as I know, X3 still has difficulty with that type of 1280 x 720p...
Why are you downloading PureHD anyway? I thought that was a system developed for hotels etc to be able to broadcast high def video on their multiple HDTVs...

PureHD
The installation for Windows PureHD happens automatically when I try to play a Video file (mp4 format). If I let the download process run completely, it'll crash my system.
The PureHD can be solved on my end by simply clicking "Cancel" during the installation. Once I cancel the PureHD Installation the FIRST TIME, it doesn't look to install again during my current session. But everytime I run Corel X3, the software looks to Install PureHD the instance I try to view or edit my first MP4 Video.

Not interested in HD
I don't really care if I have PureHD. I'm just looking to create videos and my movies. I'd be just as happy to work in a standard video format.

But that is what I don't understand: where the PureHD is coming from. It certainly has never been installed on any of my computers with successive versions of VS. (IIRC, Ulead PureHD first came out around the time of VS10 and WinDVD 7.) It is not a part of the automatic installation of X3 either. And I have just run a search on my computer that has X3 installed, and it cannot find any instance of PureHD...
I note that you call it Windows PureHD -- is that what appears on the installation process splash screen?

Re: Video Studio X3 - Crashes Often
It seems to me the same problem as I have described it in http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 06#p195766
Please contact the Corel support in your country and they can check if you had an error 1706 while installing.

I work for the Corel UK Support. I will not give technical support through this forum and my answer is only related to this thread.

Re: Video Studio X3 - PureHD Issues
Thank you very much Ron P. for providing the link to CDS_2010_Clean-Up_ver1.8 executable file. I set it to Clean All, and it removed whatever was embedded in my system that was causing the continual attempts by Windows Installer to find a PureHD.msi file at odd times when doing other operations. Even when I would right-click on a drive letter it would go for the install and have to be defeated by continual Cancels. It had me puzzled to distraction. You made my day, and then some. Thanks. Al
