Netbook unable to run X2

Post by dk4808 »

I bought an Acer netbook (for traveling) with maximum 1024x600 display. X2 won't run because it requires min 1024-768 display to run video. Is there any way to get around it?

I don't think so. VS requires the correct display.

And if the netbook has a standard Atom 1.6 CPU and on-board graphics, I don't think it would run X2 in any case. At best, it would likely be so slow as to be useless. It would certainly not be able to deal with AVCHD which requires as a minimum a Core 2 Duo processor.

I have an Acer Netbook. They are great for what they are intended for.
Small and slip into your suitcase when traveling abroad and so you don't have to worry about the size and weight of your suitcase.

With an internet dongle you can get on the internet and view your emails from just about anywhere. They are great little devices that enable you at the end of a day to transfer all of your digital photographs from the camera to a computer for
1. safe keeping
2. free up space on the SD card
3. Preview your photographs much better than that tiny display on the camera.
4. if you have time, edit those photographs with an image editor.

They are also great for keeping notes - like a diary.
Great for keeping Novels and reference books (in PDF Format) so you have something to read whilst away.

But VideoEditing
That is a great big NO.

Like Steve, I also have an Acer Aspire netbook, and agree with all his comments -- particularly since I do a lot of overseas travel. But I would never contemplate even putting an older version of VS (or other video editing program) on it or using it for video editing. The screen is just too small, quite apart from the VS screen resolution requirements.

I also have a slightly larger HP Mini netbook with a slightly more powerful Atom processor than the Acer, and running Win 7. It comes with an NVidia ION GPU and can play back HD video smoothly and well. But again, I simply would not contemplate trying to load VS on -- even though I think in this case it meets the minimum screen resolution requirement...

Thank you all for the pointers.
I have the Acer Aspire One. Looks like I can use it with PSP X2 instead of
video editing.

I haven't tried it with PSP (I have version X3), but have loaded Photoshop Elements on my Aspire, which works well... So I imagine PSP would work equally well.

I checked the following on my netbook.

Photoshop CS 8.0 - Yes - works perfectly.
Photoshop Elements 5.0 - Yes - works perfectly.
PhotoImpact X3 - NO. Screen Resolution too small
PhotoImpact 12 also requires the higher screen resolution and so cannot be used.
PhotoImpact 11 - Yes
Gif Animator - Yes
Cool 360 - Yes

I didn't try any other image editors.

If your graphics chip is a GMA950, then you may care to try this, which works on my Dell Mini10v, though the display is very squashed of course:

http://www.notebooks.com/2010/02/03/inc ... windows-7/

As well as the resolution they refer to, 1024x768 is supported.

While I have Win7 as an alternate boot on my Dell Mini, I've actually hackintoshed mine so I'm normally running Mac OSX Snow Leopard on it where sadly we don't have that resolution available yet!

The original poster is running XP so I very much doubt Windows 7 drivers would work.
