Adding text to a photo

Post by Phil47 »

Hi there all,

I've just got PSPPx3 and my first try at adding text to a photo has failed miserably over a dozen times AND with the "Applying text" page printed out from the online help manual.

1. Most of the time I cannot type the text for some reason

2. When I do manage to type text it has the letters spaced at about 3 or 4 inches apart thus only allowing two letters on the photo.

The purpose for adding text is so that I have the copyright symbol and my name on each photo I upload to websites.

Points of note:- there is no "Apply" button on my Tool Options Palette

What can I do before going crazy please?

Phil

PS I did a search for adding text to a photo and came up with 173 answers of which I noticed two mentioned my search criteria so I reckon I didn't have the time to read through 173 posts. I read one or two but no mention of my subject at all

Hmm....that's odd. The closest I've ever come to your problem the program crashed not allowing me to add text. Otherwise the text worked just fine.

So first off

The green check mark apply button doesn't show up at all?

If the letters appear that far apart check the Tracking and Kerning settings for the text.

Also check the font size. A single font "point" is 1/72 of an inch. So depending on your image size you may need a big font size in points.

The Tool bar for text is Far longer then the space Unless you have a very big monitor) at the ends of sections of it you will see a black arrow head on the black background
Click the arrows to expand Auto Kern checked is good for most cases.
The apply button next to the preset on the left will only be active if you have added text or made a change to some text

Levi,

Thanks for that. I adjusted the Tracking (I think) to zero and managed to add text just as I wanted to. I was abit surprised that using the largest text size (72 I think) it still appeared quite small on the photo. However, I was then able to increase the size of the text box and position it where I wanted it.
Still learning of course!

Trev,

I have 22" monitor and, as we speak, the tool bar for Text stretches across most of the top of the monitor ending with Tracking. Auto Kern is checked at the moment.
I can see the Apply button is there now on the LH side just after Presets and above the Text tool bar.

Thanks again - more dumb questions later I expect.

Besides resizes the box afterwards, you can type in a point size if you want something larger than 72. The drop down menu only goes to 72, but click in the Size box and manually enter the size you want to use.
