How do i capture widscreen video?

Post by motorbikeking1 »

i have got ulead video studio 7 SE and i have got a dv digital video camera. I have recorded video in widescreen mode on my videocamera and was wondering how i can capture in widescreen so the video does not look like it have been squashed.

I don't think UVS 7 supports 16:9 video. If you upgrade to UVS 9, Ulead will give you credit for being an existing Ulead product owner.

Motor.... I have the exact same problem and am using VS 9!
Have tried various settings. The sony Digital8 was recorded in 16:9 widescreen. When I view the captured mpeg, if I captured in default 4:3, the video has a flashing portion of the widescreen video under the regular video. If I capture in "widescreen" per ulead settings, the Wide screen is distorted and REALLY widescreen. Anyone with any suggested settings I missed? :x

alex23, please provide additional information about your system and what you are doing. UVS 8 and 9 handle 16:9 video just fine -- is the source video you have in 16:9 format or 4:3? If it's 4:3 and you lie to UVS and say it's 16:9, then it will not be handled correctly.

I had a similar problem with widescreen rendering. It turned out to be "non-square pixel rendering" The only way I can create a good looking widescreen .avi or DVD is to turn off (deselect) the "perform non-square pixel rendering".

If I forget to do this than an .avi looks too compressed in the vertical direction when viewed on my pc and a MPEG-2 DVD played back on my tv has black bars on the top/bottom AND the left/right along with a noisy looking image.

i managed to work out the answer and in the setting you just need to tell it to keep the aspect ratio then when viewing on tv it will be in whatever ratio you recorded it in.
