How do I update VideoStudio X2 to X3?

Post by ecbritz »

I bought VideoStudio X2 about four to six weeks ago. Now I see there is a whole new version, X3. How do I update the recently purchased product? Is there some discount for customers who missed the new boat by a few weeks? Is it really worth going to the expense?

There is an upgrade price and a full version price.
You would need the upgrade, it is still the full version but is cheaper.
You might wish to try the try before you buy version first. Bear in mind that there is a new authoring method which currently is causing users headaches. However Corel are aware and are working on a solution.

And if your purchase of X2 was indeed very recent, and you registered it at the time, you could also try asking Corel if you could upgrade without paying anything... They have done so in limited cases in the past. But you would need to be able to prove exactly when you bought it.

Thanks for the kind advice. I do have proof of the purchase of VS 12, having kept the e-mailed invoice. In the mean time, I also bought Sony's Vegas product because I was discouraged to study and start using VS 12 by advice given here that VS 12 produces movies with blimps. Also, I could not find instructions in the VS 12 User Manual on how to produce a single HD movie file rather than a movie on disc. You have warned me that VS 13 has a bug which is still being worked on. To avoid further confusion, it seems better that I stay with the (bug free?) VS 12 and try to master that, with the wonderful assistance available here, before resorting to my Vegas alternative or to the troublesome new VS 13.

It's not a bug in X3, it's a cr*p burning module which was quite deliberately added by Corel... The transition blip in X2 is a bug...

Wow ... VS 12 has an unsolved bug and VS 13 has an unfixed problem with something? Is there a cure for the transition blimp? Should I rather invest my time in the Vegas alternative I bought? You know what they say about the grass being greener on the other side ... it's usually not so much greener.

Well, from my own testing in X3, the blip seems to be fixed in that. A number of other users have confirmed that. There have also been reports that installing the trial version of X3 and then transferring a particular .dll from it to X2 fixes the blip there too. I don't have the link right now, but it is probably towards the end of the 'transition blip' sticky post towards the top of this forum...

If you do upgrade to VSX3 then presently the best advice would be to retain VSX2 on the computer. Edit with the more powerful VSX3 then from that create a Video File from the [Share] Tab. Then open VSX2 and go directly to [Share] Create Disk then import that new video file you just made with VSX3.

Corel are aware of the problems with the authoring stages of VSX3 and are working on a solution.

I'm running VS10+. If I upgraded to X3, could I use the burning module of 10+ to create DVD's?

Of course. After your editing in X3 is finished go to Share>Create Video File and make a DVD-compliant MPEG2 file. Open v10, go to Share>Create Disc and insert that MPEG2 into the burning timeline.

Do you mean your download upgrade which normally arrives via email within a few minutes, or your boxed version?
You need to contact Customer Services.
