VS11 sound problems

Post by Peem »

Please excuse all my posts but there are a few questions that have been plaguing me for a while and I have just joined . I have included two problems here because I think they both relate to codecs.

I take video footage on four different cameras all of which produce video files, rather than write to tape, so I can be dealing with three different file types, MOV, MOD and MP4

One problem not resolved occurs using VS11 on my PC. Initially all clips are fine, both in the source file and when viewed in edit mode. But often after moving back and forwards through the clip a few times, to set cut in and cut out points, the clip develops loud clicks on the soundtrack, spaced about one second apart, like electric fence interference on a car radio . In my last project about 25% of the MOV clips developed this problem. If the clip is deleted and then reloaded the click is gone but so is all the editing work previously done on that clip. By shuffling trips around the clicks can sometimes be moved to another clip.

Another problem, using the program on my laptop has been resolved after downloading a codec but maybe someone could explain why. In the editing stage, the audio played OK when I ran each clip individually [selecting ¡¥clip¡¦ below the editing window] but when I selected to play ¡¥project¡¦ all I heard was a loud static buzz no matter which clip was actually playing. I cannot understand why , if it was a codec problem , it played OK in the clip mode . I am sure most of the relevant codecs are already on my computer with the programs that come with the cameras . Is there a way I can make VS find them ?

Firstly please read this link: WARNING! Codec Packs.

Next: some formats lend themselves more easily to editing than others.
If you have a problematic format then try converting it to something less problematic - here is a free converter: Super

sound clicks

Thanks again for speedy reply.

The only codecs I should have on my computer would have been loaded with the programs on the disks that came with my various camerasor from QuickTime and the three or four other common players most people might have on their computer . Also, to solve the problem of no sound when playing in project mode Corel Support suggested I visit the Sourceforge site and I downloaded the codec it thought appropriate. Although codecs are all a bit of a mystery , it seems to me, VS would require the same codec to play a clip in clip mode as it would to play in project mode.

I suppose my question is really whether VS can be encouraged to search for useful codecs amongst these programs. It seemed to be able to find the codec I downloaded through Sourceforge.

I am totally having this same problem with my .mov files. the sound is completely static filled. Tech support is COMPLETELY USELESS and acts like this is some problem on my computer that I have to figure out. Clearly I bought the software so I could mesh videos together from my Kodak camera. If their software doesn't do this correctly for me and the other thousands of people with Kodak cameras, maybe they should adjust their way of thinking and provide an answer instead of forcing me to register and read through community board postings from others like yourself who have the same exact problem. i am so annoyed i can hardly begin to tell you. i just need an answer to this so i can use videos from the camera. it's the only reason i bought the stupid software in the first place! VERY VERY VERY ANNOYING!

There seems to be a conflict between VS and QuickTime (which you need for MOV files), depending on the version. This may be your problem.
Rob717 wrote:Check what version of QuickTime you have installed, if you have version 7.6.6 then you will need to remove Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update and also QuickTime 7.6.6.

Once you have 7.6.6 removed then you will need to download and install QuickTime 7.6 (Here is the Link: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL762)
