DVD menu options

Post by uhill »

I have Video Studio 9. It is very good and I like it. It does have however one weak side. It has extremely limited DVD menu options. I was told that DVD Movie Factory had better DVD menu options.
Does DVD Movie Factory have just more themes and templates or it is possible to change, resize, alter colors and move buttons in DVD Movie Factory? Can one create text DVD menus? Is it possible to import customized DVD menus?

Hi,

You have a great deal of control with DVDMF4, all the things you've asked for.

You get more control with the menus (i.e. you can re-size thumbnails, move the thumbnails and text around). I don't think you can do TEXT-ONLY menus...

EDIT --

wanted to clarify that this comment is specific to MovieFactory. You can, of course, do TEXT-ONLY menus in other authoring packages -- like Ulead's DVD Workshop :)

Does it make sense for me to purchase Movie Factory? I have VS9. What will I gain for additional $99 spent? Is there anybody here who has both?

You could go with the Upgrade Version for $65 (it lists you can upgrade from VS8 Full and above)

Or, if it does cost $99, then I would recommend DVD Workshop 2 Express for $149 (it lists the upgrade is available from VS8 and above)

Confirm that the upgrade does work with your version of VS9 (either MovieFactory 4.0 DC, or DVD Express).

Does anybody know of a DVD software package that will allow text only menus? I would like to do this instead of having make several sub-menus if I have more than what will fit on one screen.

Better yet, having a list of videos, with ONE box that changes images when you change selections...

I don't object to purchasing a newer piece of software, but I'd like to ensure that it'll work the way I want it to before spending the money on it.

before buying MF4 (if you decide to), google for ulead coupons. You're almost sure to find a 10% off total purchase coupon code.. 8)

Sorry if I caused confusion, when I said I didn't think you can do TEXT-ONLY menus, I was referring specifically to MovieFactory (or the DVD Authoring tool in VideoStudio).

You can do TEXT-ONLY in ULead's advanced authoring package -- DVD Workshop :)

To get the effect you are looking for (list of text items, and the picture changes as you scroll the menu items), pretty much any authoring package that support auto-activate for a menu button will work. Ulead even gives you a tutorial on how to do it with DVD Workshop
Look at the tutorial for "Rollover effects using auto-activating buttons" for the idea on how to do it. NOTE: there's sometimes a slight pause between menu items (it will vary between dvd player)
