Just installed X3 and lost my icon previews.

Post by Hooterville »

Just installed PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and when looking at my picture tubes folder all I have is the camera icon and can't see the image preview on the thumbnails.

How can I fix this?

Should I uninstall and reinstall the program again?

Thanks..

Go to the "View" tab of Folder Options and make sure that the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" option is not checked.
While you are there I'd advise that you uncheck the option to "Hide extensions for known file types". This will make it possible to tell the file types in a screen capture. It is also safer. It is trivially easy for someone to disguise a malicious file as a safe one when the extensions are hidden.
Especially if the files that you're not seeing thumbnails for are PSPIMAGE files, it might be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling... as long as you reinstall from an Administrator's account.
Easier still would be to get a copy of the PSP Thumbnail handler from http://www.botproductions.com/pspthumb/index.html.

Thanks, Tim
Already checked all of the above except the Thumbnail handler.

Will this program work with Window 7?

OK, The thumbnail handler did nothing in windows 7 for me.

I cleared out all my thumbnail cache and this is all I get:

I never had this problem with PSPX2 Ultimate.

How can I fix this mess?

Thanks.

OK, Got it working.

Ran disk cleanup and cleaned out all the Thumbnail cache.

Then reinstalled the Thumbnail Handler program, restarted the computer and the thumbnails are now working.

Not sure if it's the Thumbnail Handler program or not, but it's working.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I have Windows 7 64 bit. I've done basically the same things you've tried. The thumbnail handler seems to work for a little while, but I'm back to the generic icons for PSPImage files now.

It would be worth reporting the icon problems in Windows 7 to Corel using the 'E-mail Corel' tab at http://support.corel.com/ (You will need to click on any of the links to a Knowledgebase article for the 'E-mail Corel' tab to appear).

At least I'm not alone.

Just reported it to Corel.

Not sure if that does any good?

I think it does, but sometimes you need to follow up on the problem, because initial replies sometimes miss the point or are just some generic thing.

If no one bothers to tell Corel when there is a problem they will not know the problem exists. The Web Board team often pick up on recurring problems and pass these on. Yes they do listen and take action.
Here is an example:
2 Bugs In X3

Problem is we here cannot report everything we see otherwise we will end up in the "O it's them again" category and probably end up on their spam list!

Never heard back from Corel about this problem.

I uninstalled the PSP Thumbnail handler and I'm right back to all broken thumbnails.

I thought this might have something to do with PSPX2 Ultimate also being installed on the same computer so I uninstalled it and still have this mess.

What could be causing this problem?

Never had this problem with PSPX2 Ultimate.

Any ideas?

Also this is 32 bit Windows 7, not 64.

Got an email back from Corel today.

They said hold the shift key while starting the program to reset to the default workspace, which did absolutely nothing.

Do you think if I uninstalled the program using their CDS 2010 cleanup utility and reinstalling might help me?

I would just like to see my Thumbnails again. :(

The only solution for this that I have seen mentioned is installing the Bot Productions thumbnail handler.
It would be a good idea to let Corel know that their suggested fix didn't work.
I'm not sure if reinstalling will help, but if you decide to go that route, use the instructions at http://support.corel.com/scripts/rightn ... qid=764391 to get a clean uninstall. I think I'd wait and see what Corel's next suggestion might be, but I suspect the ultimate solution will come in a patch though.

Thanks, Tim.
I let them know that their solution did not work.
I sent them a link to this thread so they can get a better idea of the problem.

While searching the database I see the file PSPThumbShellExt and wonder if this might do something?

I just hate to keep installing a bunch of junk.
