PAL, NTSC and digital video...
Over the years, I have done a lot of video conversions for people. I don't get many customer requests to convert PAL to NTSC these days. I have never had a request to convert the opposite, until yesterday. A customer asked if I could convert a DVD from PAL to NTSC. He says it's coded for the UK. I understand the regional codes just fine, but now that the older CRT sets are being replaced by LCD and plasma panels, are the NTSC and PAL systems still in play? Is a dvd required to be burned for NTSC or PAL or is everything just digital now? I have to admit, I have not been paying attention to the way the new panel TV and monitors work to paint the video to the screen.

These days, most DVD players will play both PAL and NTSC discs, especially those sold overseas. I don't know that the conversion is necessary.
