Digital Studio 2010 Blues

Post by Tiger66 »

Hi everyone on the Board.

1. I recently bought Corel Digital Studio 2010 for my new Gateway quad i7 computer running Windows 7 at 2.8 GHZ, mainly to use DVD Factory to burn CDs and DVDs. I bought it as a box from Best Buy. I have had no hardware problems with my computer so far.

2. Although CDS runs on my 3-year old HP laptop under Vista (very slowly, with some crashes and freezes), I can't get it to run properly on my new computer. My laptop has an dual core AMD 1.9GHZ chip with 2 gigs of memory, so it's understandably slow, given that it's at the bottom of the system requirements. But it works.

3. I've tried installing the program, adding both Patch 1 and Patch 2 from the Corel website, on my Gateway. When it didn't work properly, I uninstalled it using both Windows and the manual file cleaner, then re-installed it. There's no problem with my video card driver. Corel help chat suggested the cleaning.

4. If I run it with the two patches added, it opens smoothly, but it fails to automatically import pictures, music or video. When I open the "Import" command at the top of the page and check the three media folders from my hard drive, it states "adding monitor folder failed" for my video, pictures, and music folders, and imports nothing. It crashes too.

5. If I install it without the patches, it freezes or crashes at first, and when/if it does run, it only imports a fraction of my media files. It's very unstable, and is in effect useless.

Can anyone help me? I can't figure out why I can get it to work on my considerably inferior laptop running Vista, but not on my much more powerful desktop running Windows 7. I've tried experimenting running it under several different "compatibility modes", to no avail.

Signed, Frustrated.
