Monitoring other PSP boards, it appears that a significant number of users (including me) have experienced crashes with the Preview on Image option checked on several different tools in PSPX3. A workaround is to uncheck this option.
So far, I haven't seen anyone who has reported a solution from Corel. There's been speculation by users this problem may be tied to nVidia video cards. If you do a Google search, you'll find references to PSP's alleged problems with nVidia drivers going back to version X, according to posting users.
I have been unable to find anything official from either Corel or nVidia to confirm or deny these reports. But I have run other photo editing software including PS Elements, Xtreme Photo Designer and PhotoLine without the problems I have been experiencing with PSPX3 (and X2, too).

If you have the scripting output palette open you might see any errors that occur before the crash.
Had the same thing happen to me once, but that was me being stupid so it doesn't relate at all. I tried to apply a filter to a selection rather than an entire layer. But before it crashed it gave an error to the script output that told me what was going wrong.

I'm new here and just waiting for PSPPX3 to arrive wondering now if it will even open as I have Vista 32 bit AND Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 card!df wrote:For me I killed the Process "MediaManager" on my W7 machines and that seems to do the trick. I even went so far as to go and rename the program so that it won't run automatically anymore.
On my Vista machine X3 just won't work at all, it won't even open. I'm using an ATI video card on that one.
Arrrrgh!
Phil.

Everyone has different experiences, Phil47, you may get it to run perfectly fine. Others have. And though there may be problems with nVidia drivers I have never experienced any problems with PSP and my graphics card. So...that's sketchy at best.
The media-cataloger is a problem for some, but not for all.
You'll just have to wait and see what happens. Maybe you'll get lucky.
The problem that I have here is that there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of consistency with the problems reported. Many have similar problems, but they aren't all solved in the same way. So it's not like it's just one problem that would have been easily avoided if Corel had just paid attention.

Well it just arrived today and I've installed it all ok and was able to open up all three (is it?) items ok so that was not a problem.LeviFiction wrote:Everyone has different experiences, Phil47, you may get it to run perfectly fine.
