VSX3 Video Missing in Express Edit

Post by Louis W »

I contacted Corel Support and they asked to view my computer's system (.nfo) info file. I sent it to them a few days ago, while I wait for a response, just wondering if anyone else has or have had this problem.

Here is my story:

I downloaded the trial version of Video Studio Express 2010 and there was only about a fraction of a second preview of videos in the edit menu. I thought there might be a problem with the downloaded software. So then I downloaded the Video Studio Pro X3 trial, which I really like the advanced edit features and have since purchased however, the same issue occurs in the Easy Edit menu using the Video Studio Pro X3. When I click the play button there is no video, but there is sound. I purchased the box version on disk and have the same issue after completely uninstalling the trial version and reinstalling.

When I use the Advanced Edit the Video and Audio is available for preview. The problem only occurs in the Video Studio Express 2010.

I have a brand new dell laptop with a intel Core 2 duo CPU. My video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670. My version of direct X is 11. I double checked and have the most current drivers for my video card. I also have my Windows 7 home premium up to date on my x64 based pc.

Originally Nelson from Corel suggested:

"To resolve this issue, please install or reinstall the Direct X Runtime (August, 2009) which you can download from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Also, make sure your system is installed with the most current Windows 7 compatible driver for your video card. You may download this driver from its manufacturer's website."

I tried these above "fixes" and they did not work.

Any advice? :?

You said you checked and your DirectX is current, however did you download and install as Corel instructed? By the way, that is not the most recent. In a sticky at the top of this forum, there is a thread containing a link to the most current. Download it and Install it. It does sound like an issue with either your video card or DirectX, and I'm betting on DirectX update is needed..

Sticky thread found here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?t=36002

There are various issues with Video Studio Express 2010 which are currently being worked on by Corel. It is possible you might have to wait a few weeks for the "solution" to be released. Cannot go into more detail about the "Solution" at present because Corel are working on various alternatives to establish which to use.

Direct X install

Post by Louis W »

One of the first things I did was download the direct X file. I thought that was the problem as well. I clicked on the link for the "directx_feb2010_redist" and went through the install process. The video is still not present.

Where can I look in my computer to check if it actually installed or not?

I can certainly give corel a few weeks to figure things out. So far I really like the advanced edit feature of the software and it seems to be working properly (a few minor issues, that I may bring up in another post if they continue to happen)...

But in Windows 7 which I believe you have you need to type DXDIAG in the windows search box and then click on the program that is revealed to open it. There is no "Run" facility in Windows 7. Don't know why, it just ain't there  Bit of a "Boo Boo" by Microspoilt I think! No that's not a typo!

Why would it be a mistake on MS's part. The Search box in Vista and Win 7 is a combined search/run feature, very deliberate, and excellent. Even better in Win 7 I have found...

Sorry, I know Microsoft deserves some flack, but some of it I find a bit misplaced...

I haven't used Studio Express yet but i have just imported two different clips, went through the Create video motions and it played fin in the preview window with audio in sync OK. nWhere do you clips come from and if you import one or two into the VS x3 timeline and right click on them then click properties and copy all the details to this thread. Have you tried importing one of the sample videos to Express?

Take your point Ken. I suppose I will get used to it and then shall reckon it's the best thing since sliced bread. I have to say though that I saw nothing wrong with the old system in XP. A case perhaps of "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"

It is a simple task to ad the "Run" option to Vista / Windows 7. All you have to do is turn it on, unlike earlier versions of Windows where the default setting was ON the default setting is now OFF.

Simply right click the START button and select [Properties]
Image

In the pop up window select [Customize]
Image

Scroll down and tick the [Run] option.
Image

Job done!

The procedure is exactly the same in Windows 7

But in my Windows 7 64bit setup there is no properties option nor any of the others shown in your 1st screenshot. When I click "Start" I get this:

Nothing shows. Have found the way to do this:

1.Open Taskbar and Start Menu Properties by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Taskbar and Start Menu.

2.Click the Start Menu tab, and then click Customize.

3.In the list of Start menu options, select the Run command check box, and then click OK. The Run command will be displayed on the right side of the Start menu.

Thanks SJ1805 for your help.

I actually made the DXdiag a shortcut on my taskbar when I first installed the Videostudio and was having issues.

I am really not familiar with Direct X at all. Where in the Diag window will I see that my version is the most current version? So what I did originally when installing the direct X SDK as Corel suggested was click on the link for the update, and it went through an extraction process, where then it asked me where I would like to store the extracted files, I created a folder for them and then went into that folder and along with a bunch of cabinet files there were some application extension (dll) files and one application file. I double clicked the file went through the I agree to these terms, and next next...and finish. However nothing seems to have changed.

On a side bar, to get the run feature I simply typed run into the search programs and files option on the start menu and a link popped up. Yet another way to do it.

John to answer your question (hopefully): I open the icon on my desktop Corel Videostudio ProX3 and the main startup menu pops up with choices. I click on the Easy Edit (video studio express 2010) . I click on videos under Library on the left hand side and all my videos (I did not do any importing, all the videos are on my computer hard drive) are displayed in miniature format. Scrolling over those videos there is a play button that highlights as you scroll over it, when I click play I get a flash of video then it goes black and all I get is sound. So then I double click on the video and the express edit screen pops up. The video frames are displayed in the middle of the window. Here I click play and the same thing happens. I am demonstrating this with the Wildlife.wmv sample video that came with windows 7. Also all my .mov files. These files play fine elsewhere.

Now when I put them in the timeline?, there is no choice when I right click for "properties". I get "remove" and "delete" . We must be in different sections of the program.

I hope this helps explain a little more :?
