X3 file import

Post by grafxman1 »

Can anyone please tell me if X3 will import .mkv and .ogm files? If so, I will upgrade today. I've performed conversions to various formats using Super but something always seems to get screwed up with the output from Super i.e. lost subtitles, no audio, etc.

If you look on Corel's website you will see this:

Doesn't look like your 2 files are supported.

Thanks John. I guess it's back to square one for me unless someone here can share a procedure. Searching the forum indictates that some people use Super but, while it seems to convert properly, when a file is imported into VX2, there's always a problem with it.

Seems like Ron replied to a similar question from you on 6th February last year. I found it here. I think this is still relevant!

No, not really John. I keep losing subtitles with the files I have now. Avi conversion is fine but no subtitles. Other conversions are twitchy, have no audio, etc,

Where do the original mkv and ogm files come from and what do you want to finish up with, a file to play on your PC or a DVD for the TV or what?

They play fine on my computer with the VLC media player but I want to put several on a DVD to play on my TV. They're Japanese anime stuff that's not available in the USA. I just can't find a video editor that will treat mkv files like avi files.

There's millions of them floating around on the net and plenty of software that produces mkv files. It's as if the video editing software manufacturers such as Corel, Roxio, Nero etc. are oblivious to them. It seems to me normal successful business practices, i.e. find a need and fill it, are being completely ignored.

Have a look at Wikipedia, scroll down and it gives a list of utilities that will convert mkv files..

Thanks Ron. They list players which I don't need. I don't want to spend the bucks for another pile of hardware for a media center which I don't have room for anyway. You wouldn't happen to know which of the converters there will do a conversion and retain both audio, video and sub-titles would you? BTW, many of those converters do a conversion from mkv straight to DVD. I don't especially want to create a DVD for every file many of which are only 25 minutes long. Thanks again.
