Batch delete thumbnails in VS9

Post by Trikie »

Each time I start a new project all the clip thumbnails from previous ones are displayed. Is there any quicker way to delete them - at 2 key presses to delete each thumbnail I could spend the best part of an evening.

There's a couple of ways to do this...

1. Select the first clip/image, press and hold the [Shift] key, go to the last clip/image, select it. Now all clips/images in between should be selected. Next release the [Shift] key, then right-click and select Delete. It should delete all the thumbnails.

Important: You must not hold the [Shift] key while pressing delete or selecting delete from the menu. VS does provide a warning, but doing so will result in the actual source clips being deleted from your system...

2. First create a Special Library to hold all your clips. This is done through the Library Manager. Click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the Library, select Library Manager. Now in the Library Manager dialog, select what type of Custom folder you want to create, (video, image, audio or title), the click on the New button, provide a name for your custom folder, press ok. Import all your clips to that folder. Once you're finished and no longer need them, select the Library Manger, the press the Delete button, which will delete the Custom folder and all it's contents, ie; all those thumbnails.

I always do it the way Ron mentions at "2" and create a library manager folder specifically for the project in hand and simply delete that library when it is no longer needed.

Thnks everyone.

I had accumulated thumbnails from 3 completed projects so I used RonP's first suggestion to clear them. I will now use the Library method in future.

Thanks again.
