Hi,
Using VS Pro X2 Ultimate just updated to SP1, for the first time editing AVCHD from a Sony HDR-SR8E and I've found that inserting an Effect transition (eg crossfade) mutes the sound for the duration of the effect.
I've used previous versions of VS for years and not had this problem.
I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks.
Another AVCHD transition blip?

Hi Nick
I have just tried with Avchd files with no problem.
Does it show from the project playback or after rendering?
X2 has the option to auto audio cross fade your clips when you insert a transition.
Do you have this option selected, File ¡V Preferences ¡V Edit Tab or are you using the fade-in/fade -out options?
If you view the timeline in Audio view you can see the fade/mute ramp effects, does it look normal.
And how long is the transition effect?

Trevor,
Many thanks for your reply and suggestions. I was not using the fade in/out effects but crossfading using the Effects tab or dragging one clip over another, both had the loss of sound during the transistion. Looking at the Audio view also showed no waveform during the transistion. But doing the same today does NOT produce the fault although the Audio view still shows the same. It was happening - honest.
My only thought is that it may be because my hard drive seems to have a problem keeping up. Playing a clip in preview runs smoothly but playing the project is often jerky and stalls. I have tried to carry out the system tweeks suggested in the manual but it refers to XP and IDE drives. I have unticked the Enable write cacheing and set the Paging file size to twice memory but I cant find a way of Enabling DMA for my SATA disk.
Thanks again,
Nick

Hi Nick
Strange these computers.
I agree with you, it may be the slow project playback that is causing the problem.
Are you using Smart Proxy?
If you are trying to play back Avchd files without using smart proxy you will have problems.
I do not know if this option is on by default, look in File Preferences-Smart Proxy tab.
View the proxy managers from Tools.
Audio View
I see the fade ramps when viewing the timeline.
Have you manually updated Direct X from the link at the top of this forum
It¡¦s a three part process, download, extract files, install extracted files.
This does cure some problems with VS X2.

Hi Trevor,
Yes I am using Smart Proxy and I can see the fade ramps in audio view when I use fades but not when I use crossfade which was the case.
I couldn't find your Direct X link but I got it from Microsoft. It doesn't seem to have made any difference to the stuttering project playback.
Something has just occurred to me, I have the video on different drive to VS on the C drive. I think the proxy files are stored in VS so perhaps it should all be on the same drive to avoid data going between the two. I shall continue to check.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Nick
