Capture chapter from a DVD
In the past versions of VS I could click "Capture"...select "Import From Digital Media"...I have a DVD I made in the drive that has one title but has 20 chapters. It then gave me the ability to pick which chapters I want to import.
Now, in VS x3 it looks like it wants to import the full DVD and I don't see a way to just pick the chapters I want. Anyone else have this problem?

Seems a bit much to have to buy another program to do a simple task that all previous versions could do. Here's a cheap workaround though. Open a previous version, I used VSx2. Import the chapter you want. It will go into the library. Right click on it, go to Properties and check out the path where VS stored the mpg file. Then close VS open VS x3. Go to Import video file, navigate to where the mpg is stored and import it into VSS x3. You can do this with more than one chapter at a time so should only need do it once per old DVD.

VS X3 import chapters
Are we saying that X3 cannot import individual chapters from a DVD
This program gets worse with use..
I have just tried importing chapters from a DVD and cannot do, even using 2010.
This option seems to allow chapter import but ends up with a single video file?????
Am I doing it wrong?

No need to buy another program. DVD Factory 2010 is the burning module that comes with X3.
When you import from DVD Factory 2010 all chapters are automatically selected by default (all have a check mark applied). So if you do nothing else they will all be imported.
I just tried importing a DVD that had 4 chapters. I unchecked 2 of them and left 2 checked. It imported both chapters, giving me 2 video files.

You should not need to use DVD Factory 2010, and more importantly, you don't need to use Capture, then Import from Digital Media. In the Editor, just select the same command, from either the File Menu (File>Insert Media to Timeline>Insert Digital Media) or by right-clicking on a track in the timeline and selecting Insert Digital Media. In the dialog the opens (Import from Digital Media), the Disc icon with the + (Select Import Source Folders), press it, and then the navigation window opens, where you can select the Drive or Folders that have the VIDEO_TS folder.

Importing from the VS editor, either thru the Capture tab or direct from the timeline, will only allow the import of titles, not chapters. It will import multiple or individual titles from the same disc.
If you want to import individual chapters you will have to go with the DVD Factory 2010 method.

Hi Jeff
are you saying that the software provided with X3, the 2010 authoring part will allow you to import seperate chapters.
I had tried this and although the program seems to allow selection of chapters the final file is a single file.
Edited, ok i had the title box ticked that saved the chapters as one file, unticking this option and you get individual files
