Capturing from Sony 8 mm camcorder playing back an old 8mm
I tried using my camcorder to save my old 8mm and Hi8 tapes to my pc and thence onto dvd. I am using capture on my VS12. However, after about 5 sec the process aborts with the message that the file is corrupted and will be deleted. I tried Windows Movie Maker
and it captures with no problems! Any suggestions dear friends? The editor I used before switching to VS never had this problem
Capture with Movie Maker, and edit with Video Studio?Any suggestions dear friends?
I know it's a pain, but many of us use several different audio/video "tools". I typically use one program for capture, another for editing, and another for DVD authoring. Sometimes, I'll use a 4th program for DVD burning! I have other utilities for converting "problem" formats, etc.

Yes, X2 and X3 have issues capturing from analog. Since MovieMaker works I would use that to capture, then import into VS for editing.

In fact the problem started with VS 11 when Corel in their wisdom replaced the various tried and trusted capture modules/codecs it used in previous versions, and replaced it with one module: the InterVideo Capture Module (IVI). That would not work when capturing via firewire from an analogue source. We have been complaining ever since to Corel, to no avail.
Personally, I use a small freeware program called WinDV which does an excellent job...

WinDV is just a transfer utility designed specifically for DV (avi) through firewire. No frills, bells or whistles, just transferring your DV video onto your PC or back.
I use it quite a lot myself. I just finished up transferring about 8 hrs of video, from old Hi-8mm and VHS.

Splitting by File Size, you need to set the Max file size to something below the maximum, and when it is reached, it starts a new file.
Splitting by Scene, you need to set the Discontinuity Threshold to a low setting.
Go to the webpage, scroll down to the image, and mouse over parts of it. It is an interactive image, aka GIF file. Tooltips will pop up telling how to use the program.
