Removing/bypassing 1024x768 restriction

I attempted to install PIX3 on my new netbook only to have it complain about the video resolution (it is only 1024x600).

Is there a way to kill/change this restriction?

I tried to install PSPX3 but it is such a resource pig, it takes 5-minutes to startup.

All I want is a somewhat lightweight photo editor for quick-n-dirty stuff. Yeah, I know it is a netbook but it handles stuff like Picasa without any complaints and is reasonably snappy.
