PSP X3 opening in unlisted folders.

Post by Micksan »

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled my new PSP X3. Even cleaned out registry. Used the supplied DVD , which I paid extra for so I would not have the the on-line download problems.
The problem is that the PSP X3 opens when I clickk on any of the folders . The type that you get when Right clic and select new folder.
If I right the type of folders folders ,he top of the drop down says "Browse with Corel PSP3x"

Russ,
I use the right click (my computer) or any folder and then I "select" Browse with Corel often. It gives thumbnails of all images and the you can open the one you want .. a very nice previewer .. generally speaking.

But it does not automatically start Corel until I select it (Browse with Corel item).

Otherwise, left clicking once to select a folder or right clicking a folder for "options" works normally.

I use Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit ..

What is you OS?

You need to go into PSP X3 Preferences (File menu >>Preferences) on the fly-out menu select File format associations. In the Format associations dialog window, press the Remove All button. Then for any PSPP files scroll down, locate and select the file types of PSPImage if it is not already selected.

When installing an image editing program, I never allow it to be the default for opening my images to view. To view images I use Windows Photo Gallery (Vista), or Windows Photo / Fax viewer in Win XP.

On mine if I left click SP open. If I right click the drop down allows me to open the game ,tools or what ever is suppose to be in that folder. PSP has taken control of all those folders.

Hope this explains it better..

Will open the following dialog window. It states to select the file types you want associated with.... The program done this automatically when you installed it. So you need to remove them from being associated with PSPP.

So you do this:

Which will bring up this:

Next do this:

Finally this:

Using the directions above should work as stated. It simply tells your computer to not set PSPP as the default program handler for those file types. Since you've followed those steps, and still have the problem it makes me think of the two possible issues below.

From what I've read it seems that when you click on any folder (whether it is a office document, or a video file, PSPP opens? If that is true then it sounds like a corrupted OS.

The other idea I have is that you are saying when you click on graphic file types, they open within the default program ever since you made system changes. To me it sounds like the OS is set to open files on ONE click, and not a DOUBLE click. Which then would open the file with the default program that handles those files you clicked one time.

If the first was true I would expect your PSPP program to alert you that it cannot read that file type, and not open the actual file.

Hope you work it out :)

Tried those procedures again , still no luck. I was able to get through to customer support ( chat) . Got the solution.
This came with as a upgrade to X2, which I uninstalled. According to support the unistall was the problem. I have to go back , uninstall x3, install x2 then x3 again. This is suppose to clear up the bugs
Thanks

Please click here --> Image so that we can then view your system specifications.

Your problem is that your windows file associations have got messed up, the cure will depend upon what operating system you have - XP / Vista / Windows 7. This is why we ask you to complete these important details.
It will also be compulsory to do so when the Web Board is upgraded to PHPBB3.

In the meantime you can browse this list:
Reset Windows File Associations

Everyone responding to you in this thread misunderstood what was happening. Their instructions would have been correct if PSP X3 was opening when you clicked on files. That isn't what you said...you said folders. The same thing happened to me, after installation, every time I double clicked on a folder, instead of opening that folder to see the files (inside the folder) it instead launched PSP X3. Annoying. The only way I found to fix it was by editing the registry as follows:

GO TO THIS REG KEY

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\directory\shell\

delete the key telling it to use PaintShop Pro X3 to open.
