Transparent Image

Post by fngman »

Is there a way to place an image in a video with a transparent background? I have tried to import a GIF image but the background shows up white.

The image has to have an alpha channel (32 bit).

I have never had a great deal of success with .gif images - I now work exclusively with .tga images when I want transparent areas - which must be produced as Jeff says in a package which allows the creation of images with the alpha channel and the setting of the background to transparent - you can't take just any image file and expect transparency.

You should very easily acheive something like this :-

Are you trying to put one image over another? If not then something must show in the background even if it is just the preview background color. What were you expecting to see?

He may want to put in something like a "bug", like the logos of networks in the bottom corner of your TV screen.

Well that would basically use exactly the same procedure and produce a result something like this :-

Here is a sample of what I was talking about. Look in the top right corner. It will appear about 15 seconds into the video.

Right after I posted that my computer crashed and I had to use my my recovery disk.

I was actually helping my daughter with a project. We were trying to take an image of the quadratic formula and place it over the video. It was due today, her group just ended up having to do a live presentation.

I guess I will have to research creating an alph image for future use. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good/simple tutorial?

Why not simply creating a white background in an overlay track, type the formula a a text with another color, and then using the chroma key to cut out the background ?

Hi fngman

I use PNG type images.

Transparent background with the logo, just save as PNG, no special boxes to tick.

The background shows as white from the library but is transparent in the overlay track,
I think that is normal for all types.

I can send a sample if you wish.

fngman,

What software are you using to make the image? Microsoft Paint? Adobe Photoshop? Corel PaintShop?

I too prefer the PNG format. It's a newer, higher-quality format than GIF.
