Ulead particle plug in
would this be applicable to PSPro X.Tried to download it (to be able to use bubbles etc) but it was asking me questions I was not sure of the answer to-like using another destination folder than other Ulead progs use,is it a compatable programme so I gave up.What exactly does it do for you
if it can be used?.................Ken

It adds lots of graphic effects to the layer you have selected. Particles are images that are repeated a number of times based on a specific set of values that you set when you run the plugin.
It can be used, just set the installation folder for the paint shop pro plugins folder.
If you don't know where your plugins folder is, open up Paint Shop Pro.
Open the file menu and hover over prefrences and select File Locations from the menu that pops up there.
File->preferences->File Locations
Select Plugins from the list and it'll tell you where the folder is. Just use this path to install the particles plugin.
If you have Vista or Windows 7, however, you'll need to tell Paint Shop Pro to run as Administrator because the particles plugin loads another particles plugin and Vista and Windows 7 kind of stop this from happening without permission.

Re: no plug ins loaded
Check your Preferences, File Locations, to see if Paint Shop is looking in the right place for the new plugins.Kenneth Veal wrote:Downloaded particle plug in to C:\programfiles\corel paint shop pro x\plugins but cant find them.Went to effects and "no plug ins loaded"

Re: no plug ins loaded
As well as checking that the correct folder is showing in the program location preferences, you will need to have an 8 bit per channel image loaded to be able to access plugins.Kenneth Veal wrote:Downloaded particle plug in to C:\programfiles\corel paint shop pro x\plugins but cant find them.Went to effects and "no plug ins loaded"

plug ins
Thanks for all the replies.I went to file locations and every file type was in the correct folder with nothing where ist should not be.Plug ins were shown to be in the plug in folder. This is how the box was configed.
"enable plug ins -allow use of external adobe comptable plug ins" was ticked. "limit loaded plug ins to those with an .8B? extn only" was ticked.
(I unticked this box but plug ins were still greyed out under effects so I ticked the box- should this be enabled or not)
"allow file filtering plug ins to request pre filtering of support file types"was not ticked under folder options enable-was ticked and so was "use sub folders" I did not touch the add remove buttons.
How do you tell if the image being used is 8 bit per channel.I mainly only work with jpeg images images, mostly those taken with my still cam, others would be imported jpegs, are these 8 bit?If these are not 8 bit can they be converted and how.

Re: plug ins
Look at the bottom right of your screen, the status bar should say "8 bits/channel." You can easily change it by going to the Image menu and select Decrease (or Increase) Color Depth. However, for many features Paint Shop will automatically prompt you for this conversion, which makes me wonder if your problem lies somewhere else. Some Photoshop plugins may not be compatible.Kenneth Veal wrote:How do you tell if the image being used is 8 bit per channel. If these are not 8 bit can they be converted and how.

Tried to reinstal the plug in,uninstalled the original attemp because set up told me to as it recognised I had it.I typed in the destination folder(C:\PrgramFiles\Corel\CorelPaintShopProX\PlugIns)next-In the specify plug in folder of compatable prog box it asked to spcify the plug in folder-
I re entered the above path.Told me I can only install one compat prog.
Then went round in circles with advice like -does not exist do you want one created- or folder does not exist. help please

Kenneth,
The folder, Plugins does not exist, so you must create it. Follow the path to where Particle Plug-in says that it needs to install to, in Windows Explorer. Then create a new folder and call it Plugins. Once that is done, then try to install the Particle Plug-in.

In PSP X go to File > Preferences > Program Locations and add the folder containing the 8BF file to the list in the "Plug-ins" section.
I think the best method in the long run is to create a separate folder for plugins. On this computer I have all my plugins installed to E:\Plugins, then every program that can use Photoshop Compatible plugins is pointed to that folder. Much better than the alternative of placing multiple copies of plugins into every program's plugin folder.
I just installed the Ulead particle plugin. During the installation there are two file locations that are set. The first I let use it's default of "C:\Program Files\Ulead Particle.Plugin". For the second location it suggested the Photoshop plugins folder, but I changed it to point to my "E:\Plugins" location.
It works as expected in PSP X (except that the effect is far more pronounced in the preview than it is when applied to a full size image).
One thing to avoid is pointing PSP's plugin location to the Photoshop plugins folder.
Several years ago, at about the time of Photoshop 6.5 or 7, Adobe changed the specification for Photoshop plugins. The older sort, which includes the Ulead particle plugin, work in all programs that use "Photoshop Compatible" plugins. The newer sort only work in Adobe programs.
If PSP is pointed at the Photoshop plugin folder it will try to interpret any newer type plugins it finds there, but because it is incapable of using them, the results can be unpredictable... PSP might freeze, crash or have the plugin menu entry greyed out.
