DVD MovieFactory 6 Unspecified Error Issues

Post by earnolmartin »

I really liked the results I was getting with DVD MovieFactory 6 in the past, but now I've been having all sorts of issues with it. My computer is running Windows XP x64 SP2 with the latest .net framework, Visual C++ Redistributable, and the latest DirectX 9. I'm running a Core i7 920 with 9GB of RAM.

So, I wanted to rewatch all those Buzz Lightyear cartoons I loved as a kid, but when trying to burn the disc, I receive the error of "Unspecified Error", and I cannot burn my creation or even output it to a disc image.

When finalizing my DVD, it goes through these steps before the error message.

Convert menu
Building motion background of the menu page
Preparing Output
Unspecified Error

This error message gives me no additional information, and Corel support has been unable to fix this issue. I've identified that my video clips use the X-Vid Codec. So I installed the X-Vid codec from their website, and I installed K-Lite Full Codec Pack making sure to have it not interfere with the official codec from X-Vid. Needless to say, I don't think it's a codec issue, as it converted the video before it tried to build the menus.

I resaved my background image as a .bmp since I had seen users report errors with specific JPGs. I removed all the fancy transitions and stuff from the menu, but that didn't work.

I had the same message which, in my case, was caused by overlapping elements in the menu's.

How do I make sure items are not overlapping? Ulead tells me that some items are overlapping on the menu, but I didn't think it would be that big of a deal. It doesn't look like anything is overlapping, but Ulead thinks it does.

Obviously you did not get the warning for overlapping items in your menu when you switched from step 2 to 3 (the burning screen). Look to the thread of jan 6th "Warning for overlapping did not pop up." Going, in step 2 (Menu & Preview) to "custom" will certainly show the overlapping area's. Big chance DMF will function, but don't forget to restore the first warning as Ron advised me. W.K.

Yes I had exactly the same problem and it was caused by overlapping menu
Why not try burning a disc of this film ( On to a DVD-RW ) with just a very plane menu and see if it will burn If it dose it is a problem with the menu this is how I found why my would not burn

When you're speaking of overlapping menus are referring to the buttons used to select the titles or what?

Also are you using Menu Transitions? It's been noted in the past to cause problems, so I stay away from using them.

I mean overlapping buttons
Try a burn on a DVD-RW of this film with a basic menu no alterations
This should find out if it is the Menu causing the problem

Hi Ron,

especially titles can cause this problem. In case I've a complex menu and with titles I check from now on, since my last experience, through the tab Edit>>>Customize. If anything is wrong you'll see it immediately here.
