.8bf files??

Post by pdxrjt »

Well this always happens.....I do a lot of photography, but the release of a new version of PSP leads me to learn, explore and upgrade the extras of the new version. Soooo, what are 8bf files....I have some in a folder labeled PSP Extras (my name) where I have stored various masks, frames etc. What the heck are 8bfs though???

*.8bf is usually an Adobe Plugin. For example my 2DHyperClouds plugin is labeled 2DHyperClouds.8bf

So if I'm correct those are plugins for extra functionality in Paint Shop Pro.

To use them in X3, go to File > Preferences > File Locations > Plug-ins and add that folders location.

8B files

Post by Ken Veal »

I referred 8B files in
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?t=37180
which was posted because I am unable to see a Ulead Particle plug in in PSPro X after downloading it.
In the file locations box I said"limit loaded plug ins to those with an .8B? extn only" was ticked.
(I unticked this box but plug ins were still greyed out under effects so I ticked the box- should this be enabled or not).
Now know too what these are but it not helped me with this problem………..Ken

Ken,
Older, incompatible plugins will not show up in PSP until you "convert" them. The tool I use for this is called Plugin Commander Light. There is also a pro version with many additional features.

I put the Particle.8bf here:
C:\Corel-PSPPX3\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Languages\EN\Plugins

Should this folder be reserved for only the .8bf types?

I ask because one option box in file locations (to check or uncheck) says:
Limit loaded plug-in files to those with an .8b? extension only.
Why is there this choice?

I initially thought all plugins for Corel should go here?
*********************************************************

Also a question on a folder called "plugin", located here:
C:\Corel-PSPPX3\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\plugin

Is this folder supposed to hold any type of downloaded Plugins?

I see one dll file in the folder.
ulkFMgx.dll
Is this dll actually a plugin?

Inspecting the file I see:
File description: Multiple Keyframe controls support module
Product name: Unlead PhotoImpact

.8b?

Replace the ? with another letter (traditionally an f 8bf) and that's the traditional ending for most photoshop compatible plugins. However plugins can also have just the regular .dll extension. The option to limit plugins that Paint Shop Pro loads is to make sure any plugins loaded have this extension.

I have no such folder and it's not labeled in my File Locations for PSP so..I have no idea what that thing is about. It definitely doesn't seem like something PSP does.

And plugin commander only converts plugins made with Filter Factory. Regular plugins are not effected by this. And unless plugins have been improved since version X Ken should have no troubles running the Ulead Plugins on version X so long as PSP points to them. I ran them just fine without any conversions.

Thanks for the reply.

Can PSPX3 use plugins that do not have a 8bf extension?
Like some DLL plugins?

Also, like I mentioned:
ulkFMgx.dll is used by Product name: Unlead PhotoImpact.

I only installed PSPX3 and Corel Painter.
So it is a bit of a mystery how a PhotoImpact file got in this "plugin" folder:
C:\Corel-PSPPX3\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\plugin ?

As far as photo impact is concerned Corel own them too so they may have used something from there More likely Uled bits are the movie bits or parts for Project creator. And No it can only use 8bf compatible not Even 8bi which are file format plug in
