VS X3 Missing Codecs [Solved. Registry Issue]

Post by meinthecorner »

Trying the new V3 and have been using V2 for some time.

I have had the problem before, but this time I cant fix it.

When creating a new Movie Template and selecting AVI all the codecs are missing apart from three.

VS2 still shows them, but not VS3. I've unstalled both VS2 & 3, reinstalled the codecs, reinstalled just the trial of VS3 but still no codecs.

Any idea's?

Well no... since you tell us nothing about what codecs you can see, we have no idea what might be there and what might not be... Moreover, .avi is nothing but a wrapper extension, and there is a huge number of video formats which use, but which have incredibly widely varied properties. So what we need is more information from you before anyone is going to be able to provide a sensible answer...

In a sense what you are doing is ringing up a motor mechanic and saying you have a green car, but while it has three things on the dashboard, you think you are missing some other things. And that is all the information you supply... We don't know what brand car you have, the model, what size engine, what it is capable of... What do you think the motor mechanic would say to you over the phone???

What 3 codecs are you showing, DV Type-1, DV Type-2 and _____?

I just checked my fresh install of VS X3 and I have 11 codecs showing for AVI. I know it's not a limitation of the TBYB, as I used it until getting my full version.

OK! I've reinstalled VS2 and the following codecs are available

DV Video Encoder Type 1
DV Video Encoder Type 1
MJPEG compressor
Microsoft RLE
Microsoft Video 1
Intel IYUV Codec
Cinepak Codec By Radius
Techsmith Screen Capture Codec
ffdshow Video Codec

VS3 just shows

DV Video Encoder Type 1
DV Video Encoder Type 1
MJPEG compressor

Hi all

Fixed the issue. The solution for me was found here on the http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php? ... 78c1742070

In the registry here

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DRIVERS32] called "vidc.uldx"=""

I renamed the vidc.uldx key, restarted VS3 and hey presto the codecs were back.

To check I renamed the key back and restarted VS3 and the codecs vanished, renamed again, restarted and its all working!

X2 kept the Codecs but I found when it came to create the file, X2 reported that the codex was unavailable or the codec didn't support the frame rate. :)

Ok, that makes more sense now. With how VS uses some codecs already installed, and especially since one version of VS worked, why it would prevent this one from working. I figured there had to be some problem created with X2 as well.

Thanks..:)
