Well Jimmy,
You have posed a very good question. The only documentation I can find on this, is where you found it, on their overview. I don't have the means to use Blu-Ray, so have ignored anything that is BD. I did however upon reading your post, open up that miserable DVD Factory Pro 2010, and discovered that there are different menus for BD and BD-J. The BD-J menus behave differently. You can't click on the menu screen button, you must use your remote. Instead of going back to a menu page when you select Menu from your remote, the menu just slides in from the bottom, while still playing the current video selection.
BD-J activation, raises several questions in my mind too. Why not call it BD-A, or BD-Z??? Why would it need activation beyond the normal activation of the program?
Until I can contact Corel, it will remain a mystery. I will however pose this question to him.

The "J" stands for Java. Full explanation (not that I understood it all) is here:Ron P. wrote:

Thanks Ron P and mitchell65 for the quick and helpful response. From reading the Blu-ray White Paper that mitchell65 provided I'm starting to wonder if Corel has a misprint on their Overview. Could "BD-J activation" really mean "BD-J application"?
It would make sense after reading the Blu-Ray Format Specifications.
I do have a Blu-Ray recorder but have only dabbled so far. I don't have X3 yet but have the upgrade package on order. It will be a couple weeks before I can attempt to burn a Blu-Ray disc and maybe understand what BD-J application really means. Thanks again.

My understanding is that BD-J in effect refers to the hybrid type of Blu-Ray which you burn to a standard DVD-blank using AVCHD format. It gives a pseudo-BDMV structure (which is the full Blu-Ray format) but differs in some of the sub-directories (which in fact are missing in BD-J). However, the all important BDMV-STREAM sub-folder is there which contains the actual rendered video... And both BD-J and full BDMV discs will play in most Blu-Ray players these days -- though in some cases they will either indicate that they are either BD-J or 'hybrid disc' compatible. As noted above, the menus differ somewhat, with BD-J menus being less flexible than the full BDMV ones. But it was a plus point with X2, for instance (and now X3, I believe) that the hybrid discs could even have a simple menu. Earlier versions of other editing programs could burn a hybrid disc, but not allow any menu at all...

Re: BD-J activation VideoStudio Pro X3?
Any further news on this?
Why is it requuired in addition to activating the main program and How is it supposed to be done?
Do you guys get the activation reminder when you select option 'disk" Blu-ray or when you select project format BD-J ?
Neither do i use Blu-ray but nice to know about these details
