Thanks Jeff,

Your comments are interesting. They also help me to better grasp the significance of these settings.
Best regards, Richard

Hi
As for compression, show me the quality difference between the default setting of 70 and a setting of 100.
I can :)
As I stated, using Dolby Digital is just personal preference. LPCM works too.
It is preference but I recommended Dolby Digital for good reason, it is compressed audio but still very good quality. Why use up a chunk of bit-rate on uncompressed audio when it isn't necessary?
As for a bit rate of 9800, that's fine if your video is less than an hour long. Any longer and that bitrate must be reduced to enable the video to fit on the disc. Also, some DVD players may choke on a bit rate that high.
I did say less than an hour long. The 9800 bitrate and Dolby Digital at 256 is spot on the specification for DVD, in fact you can't put a bit-rate in that exceeds the DVD standard as VideoStudio warns you and sets the bit-rate back down to the maximum if you try. Any decent DVD player should have no problems playing back that bitrate these days as it is within the spec.

I gave advice on way to get the absolute best quality from encoding to DVD in VideoStudio, apart from hacking the .ini and getting advanced settings, there is nothing more you can do to get better setting for DVD output when quality is the priority.

It makes no difference to my eyes.

But it's still compressed, and not as good as LPCM. Again personal preference, not written in stone.

No, you said "(VBR doesn't improve picture quality, it only helps cram more on the disc so if your total video is less than an hour long you can use the maximum bitrate at constant)"

You are assuming that his player(s) is of decent quality. It has been the advice of many on this forum not to use the max bit rate allowed because of playback problems.

And all I am saying is it's not as simple as

Hello,

I just came across this....
I gave advice on way to get the absolute best quality from encoding to DVD in VideoStudio, apart from hacking the .ini and getting advanced settings, there is nothing more you can do to get better setting for DVD output when quality is the priority.

I am the type to hack an .ini file to get higher quality for certain projects.... can anyone explain further on how to do this? It would be very appreciated! Thanks!
