How to retrieve overwritten file
Does anyone know how to retrieve a ulead file which has been overwritten before being finalised? Currently using Ulead Studio 10.

You'll have to be more clear on a few things:
A Ulead file? Do you mean a VSP (project file), or simply a video file (avi, mpeg2)?
What to you mean by overwritten?
What do you mean by finalized? Do you mean rendered (as in Share>Create ...)?

Retrieve overwritten vsp
I thought I should be more thorough. I have been working on a VSP file and started another one. Unfortunately I named the second VSP file the same as the first and overwrote it. At this stage I haven't touched the VSP file by creating/sharing a WMV file. Is there any way of retrieving the original VSP file?

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do. It's the same as renaming a Word or Excel file with the same name - it overwrites the original.

Might be something here for the wish-list....
I use a flash authoring program called Swishmax 3. This program does something very nice and quite possibly unique. It uses the file extension of SWI as it's proprietary working file format. Now whenever you save your working file, it automatically creates a back-up of that file, giving it another extension of sbk. Now you're probably thinking that you end up with tons and tons of these sbk files, not the case though. Every time you save your project, it over-writes the sbk file. This way at least you have a back-up of the most recent work. If while working on a project something happens and your SWI file becomes corrupted and will not open, just rename the backup file from sbk to swi, and off you go.
I wonder if Corel would be able to do this with the VSP. I know that a UPD (Ulead Private Data) file is created when projects are rendered to video files. I think that those are directed more towards the video file, than the working project file.

Not much help for your present predicament - if it's been over written its been over written - full stop.
But..... there is a lesson learned here and I would suggest you do as I do when working on any video project, no matter which Editor I am using
VideoStudio / MediaStudio etc.
At every important step I save the project under a different name.
This not only ensures that you can go back to an earlier version of the project but is a good method of creating an "Undo" in case I change my mind about something. Whilst you can specify in the project preferences the number of undo steps (up to 99) those are all lost if you close the program. It is very unlikely that you complete a project all in one sitting.
Here is how I name the projects. Simply tag a double digit onto the project name.
