Speaking of wide screen, 4x3 and monitors

Post by metmot »

I recently purchased my first wide screen monitor, a 25 incher. I love the increased workspace on it but..........

I primarily use two computers for editing and frequently package up projects and move them depending on where I want to be at that time. Ever since I got my wide screen monitor i have a problem with the titles shifting and resizing when moving the project from one machine to the other. Everything else stays ok, it's just the titles. This happened on X2 and remains an issue on X3. The project properties itself is 4x3 and of course remain the same as it is just moved in a smart package from one computer to the other.

Anyone have any idea what settings to change to stop this behavior? Here is a picture of the title text shifted to the right on a project after moving it to the computer with the wide screen. This is a pain as most of my titles have animations so I have to redo the entire string of them to fix it.

The only thing I changed was the monitor, same old computer. By the way I love that big boy!!! Maybe the answer is to just buy another one like it for the other one but for now I would like to just understand what's going on and why.

You might have 4:3 enabled on both computers, but is one set for 'non-square pixel rendering' and the other isn't?

I will have a look but I doubt it since both computers have a fresh install of X3 now and I haven't changed that setting on either one since installing so they should be running on default settings more or less.

Hi

There was a post regarding positioning of text (not being central)
Cant remember if there was a solution or not. Maybe a search of the forum would help.

Have you got the same fonts installed on both machines?

Actually the second thread from Jeff gave me the best info yet.......that is how to search this forum more effectively:)

The first thread had what appears to be exactly my problem only I have it narrowed down further since it happened with X2 exactly when I bought and installed my new monitor and nothing else changed after successfully using this work flow from computer to computer many times with old identical 17" 4x3 monitors. Then when it persisted with X3 it makes me pretty sure it has to do with screen resolution somehow and not fonts. I'm torn between spending time to get to the bottom of it and just buying another of these awesome big widescreen monitors. They are getting pretty cheap :D

Thanks guys I'll let you know if I solve this and what the story is.

Having a bigger monitor does not imply having more workspace.
What you see might be bigger and easier to read but you are still confined to the resolution available from your video card.

My laptop has a 17" wide screen display but I can get more on the screen than my 32" wide screen "monitor" attached to my desktop. The 32" "monitor" is my old wide screen TV set - I now have a 40" TV in my living room and the 32" has a VGA socket so it got promoted to Computer Monitor.

Yes, Steve, but Metmot believes the title problem is related to the different resolutions of his different monitors. So he has a choice, try to solve the problem VS has with the 2 different monitors, or just buy another matching monitor.
