Adding Chapters in Pro X3

Post by wkadams »

I am using Pro X3. Need to add chapters. I have added chapter points on the time line in advanced editing. However, when I go to DVD Factory to create a disc, the chapters are not there. I can go to the assign chapters in DVD Factory but I thought the chapter points I added during editing would be there. What I am doing wrong or not seeing.

I really appreciate the help all of you give to those of us relatively new to video editing.

Chapter Points have been a long standing bug with VS. At best they will be carried into the DVD authoring module. However with the current release (X3), it's a totally different, and separate application/program. DVD Factory 2010 actually is a stand-alone program. So getting things from one to the other is going to have problems.

Now I must ask, what workflow are you using? Are you going Share>Create Disc? This would use your VSP (Project file) in the DVD authoring application. In this case, it is not going to work. With VS Pro X3, you must first render (Share>Create Video File) in the editor, then open DVD Factory 2010, import your video file, build your menus, preview if desired (highly recommended), then burn.

Finally I'll just add, sometime ago, for a short time, it was possible to have not only the Chapter points retained, but the Chapter Names given in the editor. This did not last long though.

So for now anyway, it's best to save yourself from duplicating yourself, and just wait until you're authoring your DVD to add any Chapter points and naming them..

Can you open DVD Factory 2010 without opening VS X3?

Yes, you can. You need to see the Start-up screen. If you don't, go into the Preferences (Settings>Preferences), and on the General tab, check the box beside Show Start-up screen.

Then on the Start-up screen, lower-right button: Burn, DVD Factory Pro 2010.

Adding Chapter in X3

Post by wkadams »

Ron

Thanks for the reply. You are right I am using the wrong workflow. My computer is busy now doing a video file.

I did find a couple of distributing things though. I went ahead and added chapters in the DVD factory on my VSP file. I found it very hard to do. On the scroll bar, I could zoom in and out whicih changed the frame display but didn't change the scroll sensitivity. I found it very hard to get to the right frame where I wanted to insert a chapter. Am I doing something wrong.

Also, once I added the chapters, I saved my work to come back to later. When I did, I couldn't get back to the same place with my chapters. Again, I am probably doing something wrong.

I don't know if things will be different once I create a video file. I hope so but don't have much hope.

Thanks again for your help.

In DVD Factory, your saved project should be in the Projects Organizer. Double-clicking on it, should open the project, or it is one of very few places that produces a useful right-click menu, one being Open.

The project should open, with the Titles and Menus located along the right-side. The Add Chapters menu should be at the top.

I know what you mean, by being difficult to precisely add chapters. But that's what we have to work with for now..
