Text Mode Error

Post by pepegota »

I have been getting this error with VS 11, VS Pro X2, and now, VS Pro X3:
While trying to use the "Border/Shadow/Transparency" key : "Encountered improper argument." What argument? I haven't got a clue. Is it something in the OS-Windows XP?
It is not a major defect, but I would like to correct it , if possible.

Probably a software bug. That's programming jargon... It means something like there's an invalid value (some number out of range, etc.), or some variable is the wrong "type" (like a character instead of a number, etc.). You're not manually entering the value/argument directly. It's not you! It's something that's being generated internally by the program.

Then why have they not fixed it for all these versions? They must know it is a bug. Has anyone else had this problem?

Whilst it is unlikely - what was it Sherlock Holmes said
"When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains however improbable must be the truth"

Can you describe all of the steps you take that cause this error, starting with
"I inserted a video (photograph) to the time line
(how did it get into your computer in the first place, what kind of file is it
DV, MPEG2, MOV, DivX etc.)
and then I did this......."

This only happens under these conditions:

1. In text mode and I created a text item. I desire to use the Borders/Shadows/transparency key
2. Multiple titles is selected
3. Upon pressing the key, I get the error message stated above.

That's it. Though only a minor problem, it has persisted over the last three versions of VS. If it's a bug, why don't they fix it, and has anyone else experienced this anomaly?
I just got a thought, maybe this only works if single title is selected. I will try it out and see. Nope, it still happens with single title selected.

What do you mean by "multiple titles is selected"? Do you mean multiple lines of text within the same text box?

Does it happen with any font, or one in particular? What happens if you only select one character, line, etc.?

It happens regardless of font. Select multiple titles button on the screen or single title-it makes no difference.
