Edit/Captured File Work Flow

Post by rckowal »

Using VS 11.5, I want to create three movies (different subjects) from one 90 minute Mini DV tape video that has already been captured onto my HDD in avi.

How can I best proceed with the editing so I will have three movies (approximately 20 minute each; the balance being deleted) that I can then burn to three DVDs?

Not exactly sure what you are unclear about...

Edit your first subject and save as Project 1. Create a video file. Edit the next subject and save as Project 2. Create a video file. Again, edit and save as Project 3. Create a video file.

Start a new project, go to Share>Create Disc. Import your 3 video files and make your DVD.

"Edit your first subject" is what was unclear to me. Specifically, how to eliminate the unwanted footage during the initial edit step. Likewise, I wasn't aware that the "Share>Create disc" option would allow me to save the initial edit as an .avi.

Regardless, it appears that I have VS doing what I want now. Thanks for helping.

Hi

With the 90 minute video in the timeline, navigate to the end of the first movie.
Using the scissors cut the video file, now you have two clips.
Continue to navigate the second clip to the end of the second movie. Cut the video file creating another section/clip.

Continue with the third and so on.

Now drag all clips to the library.
This will create a copy of the clips.

Start a new project and drag the first clip from the library to the timeline, save this project as movie 1
Edit the movie. By using the scissors you can separate the unwanted frames, hitting the delete button will remove them from the timeline.
When complete use Share Create Video File will compile/render the project to a single video file.

Repeat with the remaining clips.

You should now have one video file (Mpeg 2 file) for each movie project.

Start a new project¡XShare Create Disc--DVD¡XAdd media¡Xadding the video files.
Create your DVD menu and burn the disc.

Some confusion here---I don¡¦t think anyone mentioned that ¡¥share create disc¡¦ created an Avi file

Thanks Trevor, Now, all is very clear. "Share>create disc" was the piece of the puzzle I was missing - especially that it could create an .avi file.
