VS Pro X2--DVD Format issue

Post by tjames »

This is what I am experiencing:

Am using Windows7 and all VS patches are downloaded. Video capturing and editing functionally works great. But my goal is to view the DVD full screen on my samsung HDTV (16:9 & no black bars top or bottom or on sides). I cannot seem to make this happen with all VS settings and formats set to 16:9. I can also change the view to 4:3 through the TV settings.

This is the confusing part to me....DVDs made previousely with MovieMaker II and rendered with DVD Santa do actually play full screen on the TV but play 4:3 on my HD computer screen. And now the videos made with VS play full screen on my computer but not on the TV. VS videos play the full width on the TV but I have black bars on top and bottom. This really distorts the video as you can imagine. Also, if I plug the JVC camcorder in directly to the TV, it plays full screen so I know I am recording in 16:9.

I am capturing from a JVC Mini DV (NTSC) camcorder. I believe all properties and settings for capturing and rendering in VS are set to 16:9 after spending hours reading the manual, tutorials and browsing this forum.

Is there a setting in VS that I am missing to be able to accomplish full screen viewing on my TV? I have burned many DVDs using different VS settings but cannot seem to correct this problem.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated...

Sounds to me like it is a setting on your TV that needs to be changed.

Thanks for the reply.....That was my first thought also, but the DVD player/TV play other DVDs produced with MM2/DVD Santa full screen. So I'm thinking to myself, what is different about Pro X2? Project properties, rendering properties, burn properties etc?? Raw video with camcorder plugged into TV also plays full screen.

Is your "Welcome" screen set to 16:9?

Hi....

Welcome screen is set to 16:9 along with all other settings, I believe. I have since noticed that another post discussed this very issue. His problem turned out to be the VCR apparantly. I've tried a couple other things with the TV and VCR but with no luck. Zoom1 TV feature will fill the screen entirely but it is somewhat distorted. This feature simply stretches the vertical to match the horizontal. The 16:9 unstretched view fills in on sides but I have black bars on top and bottom. Again the old DVDs fill in entirely and I'm not sure what could be different.

Thanks for the idea.....will keep trying things
