Ken,
How are you going about saving them? When editing are you using the PSPP working file format? I know for all images that I do any work on, the very first thing I do is duplicate the image inside PSPP, [Shift]+D, then close the original. When I'm done I can then export to whatever format I want, or just save it as a *.psp file.
So if you are doing like I do, you will need to export the file as a jpeg, or choose File Save..as and select jpeg as the file type.
One other thing to look at.. in the Preferences, check to see if you have Auto Preserve turned on. If so, the program automatically saves it in the working file format (psp).

save as jpeg
Cant find auto preserve any where in pref, nearest I got to that was in display caching-under
presentation was re use last type in file save as dialog which is not enabled- should it be ?
First of all, I forgot to mention before that this has happened since re installing PSPro X.
My workflow
Open up jpeg image from pspro browser (at least I thought up to now it is jpeg because it would have been saved as that in the original my pics folder A but they now show as psp )
Edit image (would this not automatically then be a psp image) F12 or file save as. Save as jpeg in a my pics folder B
Delete image in psp and original unedited image in folder A in my pics then repeat for next image

Are you sure that your Jpegs are now PSP files? When you first install the program it asks if you want everything under the sun associated with PSP, if you click yes then all of your thumbnails will become PSP icons. Pretty frustrating until you figure it out.
In PSP X click File > Preferences > File format associations
Uncheck anything that you don't want your computer to think is just a PSP file. In other words go there and make sure the only thing that's checked is PSP files themselves.
You can also go into the computers control panel and associate files with different programs that way as well.

save as jpeg
After going to view-thumbnails I can now see the actual images in the unedited my pics folder A.
If I hover over any of these a tool tip tells me it is a psp image, before reinstalling PSProX all of them were jpegs.
I am trying to open up and edit these images in pspx, edit them then save them as jpegs in another my pics folder B.
In pref-file format associations the following are checked bmp gif jpeg + jpeg 2000 png and tift.
If all these are deleted leaving just the default psp files- will I still be able to open say a jpeg in an
email attachment to view and edit in pspro.Also will double clicking an image of what ever type
-will that show , or do I have to open them up by going file-open in pspro. Or am I not getting it.
.
Here are the pref options in PSProX
Gen prog pref undo limit its usage enable fast redo view display+ caching palettes
browser pal misc units trans + shading photo sharing warning auto
action.
File format pref gen meta file pcd png post script raw
file format assoiations
file locations
Auto save setting
Reset pref In thereset the application dailog box (non checked)
Reset to factory settings reset gen pref file locations
Workspace to default dialog position last used setting
Delet all cache files make all tollbars/palettes visible on screen

Re: Cant "save as" jpeg
Ken, I can't believe PSP has changed those jpegs to PSP files. Here's how you can check.Kenneth Veal wrote:I am trying to save edited images fron PSPro X as jpegs in a my pics folder.They keep being saved a PSPro images, how do I get round this.

Go to File>Open
Make certain the Type Files selected in the Open dialog window is jpeg
Navigate to the folder with the files you're working with if not already there
If those are jpeg, you'll be seeing them as choices for opening
As I recall the default for PSP is sticky, meaning it remembers the last file type when you saved.
Save As with F12 is another way of changing the file type when you save.

psp file/jpeg file ?
Went to psp-file-open- selected files of type jpeg-all files still displaid in the folder but when hovering over the image to be opened the toolltip was still telling me that it was a psp file-how come that?
The image opened in psp.clicked F12 and navigated to the destination
folder B in my pics to be saved as a jpeg.Navigating up the folder tree
via my pics took ages which is one the reasons I reinstalled, but it has not solved the problem.The image eventually goes to the folder B but on hovering over the saved image the tool tip is still telling me it is a psp image.
I then loaded Video Studio 11+ and opened up the image in folder B in VS
which proves it is not a psp file too.
So how do I get the tool tip to tell the truth?

Re: save as jpeg
OK, so here's what it sounds like what's happening in non-computer speak.Kenneth Veal wrote: In pref-file format associations the following are checked bmp gif jpeg + jpeg 2000 png and tift.

PSP is being told that Bitmaps, Gifs, Jpegs, Jpeg 2000s, Pngs and Tiffs (tift?) are all defaulting (owned for lack of a better term) to PSP. So when you are in PSP and you go to open any one of those images and hover your cursor over the image it pops up and says "Yep, I'm a PSP file". I think that if you view the images without PSP and you right click the file and click properties you'll find that it's still a Jpeg, but the default program to open it when double clicked is PSP.
Your running Windows XP. To my knowledge XP does not "see" PSP files like it does Jpegs. In other words you don't get thumbnails that look like small pictures of the actual file that you're looking at but rather all PSP files have the exact same PSP icon. If you can "see" the thumbnails as anything other than PSP files then they are not PSP files (as long as your view settings within XP are set to display Jpegs as thumbnails).
To answer that last part, PSP will still open all files that it can physically open without having to associate the file type with the program. PSP files don't even need to be associated with PSP. However you'll have to open the files from within PSP or use the right click > Open With > PSP X option (I don't remember if XP has that so if you don't see an "Open With" option when you right click a file just disregard this). If you use the right click option you can set XP to "Always use this program to open these files" and check the box that says that.
You can also go into some place in the control panel to set the file associations or program defaults, but there's a couple of different ways different computers can be set up and to list them all would confuse myself much less anyone else. I also don't have an XP computer for reference.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bottom line, if you can see the thumbnails outside of PSP, and the properties say it's a Jpeg (that opens with PSP) then you can just leave it alone.
shown as psp images
I went directly to the saved image in folder B, right clicked-properties-type of file shows as PSP and it tells me that it opens with PSPro.
Did a right click on the image-open with-choose -prog-selected PSPRo-checked
always use selected prog to open this kind of file in the open withbox(the file was listed as a jpeg)- clicked OK.PSPro opened with the image showing.Right clicked on image-selected image file info shows image file type as jpeg in current image
Infobox.F12 save as jpeg in folder B-right clicking for prop and hovering over the image says that it is a psp file.
Still dont see why this has changed, they showed as jpegs in folder B before
